Earlier today i received some AVI. files from my friend, the weird thing was that they played perfectly for him but when i went to play it on my laptop they would play at all. Now we both have Macs, my quicktime is up to date, and neither me nor my friend could figure out why they worked on his and not mine. Now it said that i might be missing a codec. would any one no of something i would need to play AVI files and if so where i could get it.
This helped a bit. I now have video, but no audio.
In VLC it says the Audio codec is A52, I tried installing the A52 decompressor (your other post in this thread), but that didn't work (or I didn't install it right, it was bit confusing for me.
After downloading and unzipping, open the A52 codec folder and drag the "A52Codec.component" folder which is inside it into your /Library/QuickTime folder. Then Quit QuickTime Player and run it again...
I keep forgetting that you are on an Intel Mac. You may have to force QT Player to run in Rosetta to use the A52 codec since its only for PPC Macs, not Intel, yet.
