My new ipad charger is heating up to 130 degrees while charging, is that normal?

The online converter I used said that it was 65 C. I will double check in future.

I just realised where I went wrong.

I typed in 150 F NOT 130.

I'm glad that it is getting replaced. Any Apple representative that told you that your iPad was operating safely or within normal specifications was clearly lying or being deceitful. If they were not sure, they should certainly have made an attempt to find out.

I noticed the same thing, every time I charge my IPad the charger is hearing up a lot, almost that I don't want to touch it, I charge it on an extant ion cord ! And the charger is getting very hot, it worries me., than I have been reading the notes on the site and thought I will try to just plug it in the wall outlet ! AND ! It does not heat up es much as plugging it in an exstantion cord ? I will try it again and see if it's really makes a difference . I noticed that the plugs, prawns are the same size and you plug it in any way you want in an out let or exstantion cord ??? Does it make any different wich way I plug it in ???? Not sure yet, I will try and let you all know.

No, it should NOT matter which way it is plugged in.

I have 4 different chargers and ALL of them get extremely hot when I charge my IPad very quickly. There's defiantly an issue with this. When u can smell something melting, it cannot be normal.....but Apple tell me there's no concern... Even though I literally burned my index finger and thumb on a Apple Charger.

I've noticed the same thing but its always in certain outlets. When I plug it into the same outlet that doesn't heat it up its always fine. Not an electrician but I think it has to do with the circuit your on.

Im having the same thing. My charger after prolonged use always gets hot. Then it stops charging. Often when i wake up in the morning, the ipad is not fully charged and the charger is hot. If i unplug the charger from the power outlet and wipe the metal portion a while then re-plug it, it often starts charging again. So strange.. anyone?

I am having the same concern about how hot the plug get when charging. Once complete it cools down. I guess as long as it is not so hot that I burn my hand, it is normal.

I've just taken mine into the apple store they replaced it as the battery wasn't charging properly they had no answer why it was over heating though. They said they'd never seen it happen before but clearly it's a problem. Mine hasn't always done it only for about the last three weeks. It gets so hot you can't touch the charger with your bear hand.

Dont worry mate. Follow these steps carefully:

It happened to me when i was connecting my adapter on my extansion. So Listen Carefully.

1) Its absolutely normal. Its hot because obviously eletricity is passing from it.

2) Dont connect the adapter on an extansion. It damages it.

3) Dont use the iPad when charging. When using it, it will take a LOT of time to charge. That way, when it will reach 100 it will stay on for a long time.

4) When the iPad arrives at 95% it will cool down. Dont worry!

PS : If it keeps on insisting, Visit and apple store in your town and tell them to make a replacement. My friend made one for 20 dollars. Cheap.

OMG the plug just blew up when I was charging my ipad - what shall I do!!

I thought I was the only one having this problem and when i called apple I got no help. I went to Sprint and bought two new pure gear chargers for my minis and they do not heat up at all.
