Apple TV 3rd generation stuttering on buffer

i have ran e net from my airport extreme direct to my imac and atv3 and get video stutter (this happens durring the buffer) after the buffer is complete the stuttering stops ...(for both local movies in itunes and internet based from the itunes store) i tried wifi since the e net port is not gigabit and still have the same issue ... my first gen atv never had an issue streaming (yes streaming localy ...not stored on its internal hdd) ... i also tried lowering resolution to 720p and turning off dolby digital audio to no avail ... im pretty sure this is a hardware issue the processor must be crunching while buffering is happening ... does any one have similar issues? i am going to call apple tomorrow

Ok so i just got off the phone with apple tier 2 and after all that they are sending me a new apple tv ... which i know wont fix the issue ... but if by some miracle its just that we have bad units i will let you know ... currently i am waiting to hear back from them for labeling and return instructions ... please call in and report your issues because she said they do not read these forums ... i will update this when im done... im a little ****** because i had to wait a week and answer the same questions that i did in my initial trouble shooting ... for 100 dollors they waisted more man hours on me then the product costs... i asked to speak to an engineer and i was told no that she is the point of contact

I am experiencing the intermittent, slight video stutter on my ATVG3 as well, although I am not certain the problem is eliminated when the buffering is complete for the content I'm watching. The stutter is definitely reduced, although I still perceive subtle glitches in the video after buffer-complete playback. To be fair, I don't know that my source content is flawless, and need to do some testing with some "known perfect" content. However, the stuttering issue has been present on all locally-streamed content I've watched.

So far I'm disappointed with the ATV unit, as I expected playback to be near perfect. Even though the stutter problem is subtle, it detracts from the viewing experience. The unit should be able to handle smooth playback while receiving content into the buffer, regardless of how crappy my network infrastructure may or may not be. And when the buffer is complete, there is nothing to blame but the ATV unit itself.

Are you all on WiFi? Had the issue till I went Ethernet on my new one I had a 2nd gen but never used it after the update.

The WiFi speed for the iPad and AppleTV is only 65mbps on 2.4 not sure about 5ghz though, because they only put one antenna inside vs laptops with bigger batteries that have 3-4 maybe 5 antennas for WiFi.

Network type (wired vs. wireless) should be completely irrelevant because of the 8GB cache buffer on the device. As long as the network is fast enough to fill the cache faster than playback of the content, which is the case for me, there should be no issue. If the ATV had no buffer, then indeed playback would be completely dependent on the network speed.

If you've just started watching a two-hour movie, and half of it is in the cache, there should be no glitches in the playback, even if the remaining bits are coming in sporadically based on network dropouts or whatever. If the device can't handle this basic concept, shame on Apple.

I'm well aware however even with my 4/5 bars of WiFi I still had issues and plugged in Ethernet and it suddenly worked. I can guarantee you I have no WiFi interference as I don't live close enought to any neighbors for that and I have a 30mbps Comcast Internet using Google DNS and iTunes Match wouldn't even play a song without stuttering on WiFi and my 2nd Gen ATV worked fine WiFi but I never used it after the update.
