iMessage and FaceTime not working

Hi,

I updated my IOS to 5.1 the other day, and since then neither iMessage nor FaceTime has been working correctly. I'm currently studying abroad in Spain, so my phone number is deactivated. I still have my apple ID on my phone however, which should be enough to use iMessage and FaceTime. When I go into settings, it says iMessage is "waiting for activation". I obviously can't call customer support either, as my phone is deactivated. Apple is really making me angry now. Updating the phone took away my iMessage and FaceTime abilities, and now I can't even contact them because they don't believe in email support. Can anyone propose a solution to my problem? It would be much appreciated!

Hi!

I have an iphone 5 and am out of u.s. on vacation and my imessage and facetime were working at first through wifi but now they say they're "waiting for activation". I tried reseting the network, changing my DNS, changing the country, pretty much everything and now I can only send imessages through my email and not receive any from anyone I haven't contacted first. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate it!!!

Today I put my phone on the charger for five minutes and walked away. When i came back i tried to send a text and then attempted to facetime my girlfriend. Imessage would not send any messages and Facetime always says failed to connect. When i turned both off and then back on again they both just say "Waiting for Verification" then stays there. I called apple and they were of little to no help since my AppleCare is up for renuewal and i dont feel like paying $20 to fix it. ANyone have any luck fixing this problem? I heard its effecting not just me.

When you are in your wifi menu, you can click on the blue arrow like symbol on the right side of your wifi network name. You will end up in the settings for you wifi network on your iphone or ipad, then click on the DNS tab and change it to 8.8.8.8 that works for me with all my apple products.

Hope this works for everybody, if not then I cannot help you, sorry.

The solution is a complete rest, and restore of you device. Mine was an iPad, and after three days of complete frustration chasing discussion after discussion--I did what should have done on day-1.

I backed up to iCloud, then rest all settings back to factory default, erasing all data and apps. I restarted and fully restored from the iCloud backup and all is well.

Not everything restored from the iCloud, I had to connect to my laptop and restore dome Apps from there, but not iMessage and FaceTime work.

Too bad this is not upfront for everyone to see--early into the problem. I'm not an avid forum user, and perhaps this is why. Sometimes it takes three days wandering through "experiments" to find the solution. What is puzzling is the fact I am certain Apple knows this is the only way to love the issue--yet it is not fed to us. They must want you to purchase the tech help plan.

I tried all the different ways that seemed to be working for some.

My dilemma was that I went abroad and it worked for a while then it didn't at all.

To make things short, for those who is in the same boat as I was 1 hour ago (after spending my whole day aswell) was:

1)Back up your phone to itunes, or better yet if you have already have recently where imessage did work that's even better! Yeah you might have to install some apps again but at least you'll have it working! imessage working on

2)Settings

3)General

4)Reset

5)Reset ALL (basically restore)

6) when as new iphone restore from itunes.

This worked for me. I restored from my last backup, and iMessage is now working.

I have to download some games and apps over, but it was totally worth it.

Hope this helped someone.

Bless!
