Viber can't access Push Notifications

I deleted Viber from my Iphone 4, after it duplicated and scrambled the Viber address book. Reinstalled the App, and now get a error message saying "Viber can't access Push Notifications". Checked Settings/Notifications, and Viber is "On". Tried the solutions offered by other Iphone users a) Entered 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 into my wifi DNS. Does not work. b) Depressed the power button and home button at the same time to "force" the App. Does not work. c) Installed Ipush Test App. Does not work.

My phone is not jailbroken, Viber worked before, every App that uses Push Notifications work, reported the problem to Viber, no response!! Can somebody HELP me. This App is driving me CRAZY!!

Whilst it probably too late for you, I had the same problem and shared the same frustration as I knew Push Notifications was on. The solution that worked for me, as obtanied from Viber support site, was in addition to Push Notifications being on, I had to select Banners OR Alerts [further down menu under push notifications] AND Notification Centre ON, Badge App icon ON, Sounds ON and View in Locked Screen ON. Apologies if you have already tried the above, but all I can say is it worked for me. All the best.

Thanks TaffTwo. Appreciate your comments. According to Apple, the issue with Viber is a result of the software upgrade to IOS 5, that occured recently for iphone users. Glitches in this software have created the problem. Whether Apple, or Viber, will be able to resolve the issue remains to be seen, but apparently they are aware of the cause.

@jpv1 -

We are still looking into the issue you described, but it is hard for us to pinpoint the source of the problem.

Note that we are working on a new, big version of Viber, and we hope to release it fairly soon (we don't have specific release dates yet, but we're not talking about months here).

Once available, we invite you to try it out and see if it finally solved your problem.

Until then, we recommend that you consult with other users on the Web and see if they had experienced similar issues - maybe a user-based solution can be found.

This is not an Apple issue, rather an attempt by Viber to drive individuals to use Viber. The advent of iMessage essentially made Viber obsolete to avoid text data charges by carriers. The solution of activating all options in the Notification Center does not indicate a problem with Viber accessing push notifications - it has to be native programming to the Viber app. If Viber were truly having issues accessing push notifications, the settings in the Notification Center should make no difference.

Hi @reardonmj -

The fact that Viber requests all Push Notifications to be on is indeed a "choice" of our programming. However, why should it be considered as a negative thing, like you put it?

It has no external effect on any other iPhone or app functionality, and it simply assures the full availability of the user to receive free calls and text message through the app, using our free service.

Besides, the problem described above in this page concerns a problem with the whole Push Notification mechanism, not with a scenario where users accidentally forgot to activate one specific notification (for example - Banners) out of the three. So - its source is different, and that is what we explain in our quick&easy help page, to which I linked in my previous message.
