Viber can't access Push Notifications

I deleted Viber from my Iphone 4, after it duplicated and scrambled the Viber address book. Reinstalled the App, and now get a error message saying "Viber can't access Push Notifications". Checked Settings/Notifications, and Viber is "On". Tried the solutions offered by other Iphone users a) Entered 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 into my wifi DNS. Does not work. b) Depressed the power button and home button at the same time to "force" the App. Does not work. c) Installed Ipush Test App. Does not work.

My phone is not jailbroken, Viber worked before, every App that uses Push Notifications work, reported the problem to Viber, no response!! Can somebody HELP me. This App is driving me CRAZY!!

Hello all, from reading this top to bottom we seem to have people who have different problems:

1) People who get a Viber error message who need to follow the steps in the previous post by Viber to turn on the required push notification settings, ie: banners, sounds etc

2) The people (like me) who deleted the Viber app at some point and have now reinstalled it, who have all the recommended notification settings correct as per Vibers request, but who still receive no push notifications when the app is closed. As far as I can make out the only fix for this problem is to completely wipe your iPhone and reinstall the latest iOS from scratch and then install Viber once again, which is a bit pants!!!

It must be a software glitch that happens when you uninstall Viber, then reinstall it which would be Apple's responsibility to fix but they are obviously not going to pay a programmer to do this when they can just tell the unlucky few (including me) to just reset my phone and start again :-(

I am not willing to go to the trouble!

If I leave Viber running in the background it does work fine, it's only when I close the app I don't get push notifications.

Thanks for reading my very long observation and good luck to you all :-)

Can you please fix this Push Notification issue. At some point last year, a Viber update now forces users to have Sound on in notifiactions for Push to work. I used to be able to ignore it and continue using Viber.

It is a bug in the app cause the error states: Notifications are Off. To use Viber you must enable Push Notifications.

Push is on. Badge icons are on. I don't need sound to be on for Push to be on. This is the ONLY app that fails to work when only Sound notifications are turned off.

I don't want Viber sounding off while I sleep. Simple as that. And I can't just mute my phone. I need to hear from imporatnt calls cause I am on-call 24/7. I would like to use Viber cause a lot of people I know use it, but this bug/decisison has forced me to use Kik.

Will you and/or why won't you fix this issue?

Its been like this on unmodififed iphone 4 and 5 in ios 5 and 6.

Thank you for your feedback.

At this point, Viber requires all notifications to be on, and if you want it to be silent, you simply turn your phone to Silent mode (Viber utilizes your iPhone's main sound and vibration settings, just like your regular calls/SMS).

We hope to add the option of custom notifications for Viber in future versions.

Meanwhile, we invite you to enter our Feature Request page and post your suggestion there, or join an existing similar suggestion. The more people join on a request, the faster it will become reality 🙂

As I said in my original post, I can't turn my phone on Silent otherwise I will not hear imporatant phone calls as I am on call 24 hours. Did you not read the entire post? I would suggest understand customers problems with your app before giving a solutions that trumps over their essential needs.

There must be an alterior motive to force this feature upon its users. Again, you, Viber, are the only app that forces Push Sounds on its users. This is a simple code modification. But you guys fail to do it. What's even more rediculous is you have customers, how this thread started, asking you for help on how to use your own app cause they can't get past the Push startup error message when all notifications are not on.

And please do not treat users like they are not knowledgable by saying "We hope to add the option of custom notifications for Viber in future versions." Its a quick fix and you know it. Hope has nothing to do with it.

You either do not want to give control to your users or there is a lack of incompitance in the apps development team.

As I said, I will just use Kik or Skype or serveral other choices out there.

Good luck with your irrational strategy in frustrating more customers.

Good Day.

Hi again @orbitalpunk

There is no need to get upset, nor be rude. After all, we care enough to enter outside forums and blogs across the world in order to provide our users with direct assistance. So obviously, we care a lot about what are users think and we always try to adapt our service according to popular user demand. Furthermore, we don't think it's right to claim that we think poorly of our users' technological knowledge. This cannot be found it in our posts.

We have read your comment to the fullest last time. Our answer is the same: it's not that we would like to force you to put your entire phone on Silent. What we simply replied was that in the current version, Viber will go Silent only if the phone itself goes Silent.

You are right - technologically, it is not an impossible task to implement the options you mentioned into our app. However, please bear in mind that you are not the only user who requests features from us among our millions of users worldwide

Aside from that, we also have other projects running in our company, like Viber on whole new platforms, for example.

All of the above doesn't mean we neglect our users' requests. Adding the features you mentioned is certainly on our list of development, but we still haven't had the time to fully develop them and/or test them thoroughly before releasing.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience, and we hope to complete these features and implement them soon. We'll certainly keep you posted with news 🙂

Best regards,

the Viber Team.
