HDCP error on MacBook Air (NOT using external display)

I just downloaded a HD (720p) movie through iTunes, and cannot play it on my Mac becuase of a HDCP non-compliance error. I am running it directly on my MBA, not through an external display... I would have thought the MBA integrated display would be HDCP compliant! Is this an error or am I wrong in assuming my MBA could play legally purchased HD movies?

A simple restart usually works too, without doing a SMC.

However, this is not an acceptable "solution" to a long-lasting bug:

the problem should not even happen in the first place !

Imagine this happened with music: you'd have to reboot your

computer every once in a while, just so you can listen to your

own music on your own device ??? Why are we forced to do that

for HD video, played back without any external monitor ?

Hi Jay,

Had the same problem, could not figure out what was going on, until I remembered I had to install some "display link" software for my mba for it to work with another monitor. Even though I had the monitor disconnected, I got your error on my main screen. Installed it more than a year ago, used it once or twice for work and then forgot about it. Hope this helps!
