When your ipad is syncing it will say "downloading safari safe browsing data"? What is that?
I think you are missing the original question "what data is in the downloading safari safe browser step in the ipad/itunes sync process"?
Dragon's response are not correct with regard to what you are asking. I'm not trying to be rude - but just ignore those remarks. Those sync preferences have nothing to do with the Safe Browsing Data that you are asking about. Those sync preferences that Dragon is describing are for syncing Safari's bookmarks on the computer to Safari on the iPad.
The article referenced above explains what is occurring with the safe browsing data. If downloading that data bothers you that much - you can try clicking on the X in the iTunes LCD bar when the data starts to download and that may stop the sync right then and there. It may also corrupt the sync.
I assume that you read the article but I copied this and pasted it here.
This database, provided by Google, is used by mobile Safari to check for known malicious web sites. To check if this is activated on your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then look for the Fraud Warning slider. If it’s not set to “On,” do so; it’s a good way to protect your device and yourself from known malicious websites.
If i tried that wouldn't the entire sync be canceled?
That is it......the only thing I see in iTunes for syncing to iTunes to or from the iPad is this bookmarks item. The movie part may beart of that because it's assuming you will belaying movies thru your safari browser.
As for data.....safari would only sync bookmarks, reader, saved web pages".......basically anything you access thru safari if it does anything beyond the bookmarks.
Let me turn mine on and see what happens
At that point in the sync - it may not cancel the entire thing - but it might corrupt it. I have cancelled that before when it seemed to be taking forever for that part of the sync to finish and it didn't appear to do any damage but YMMV.
I just turned on the bookmarks sync option in iTunes I mentioned and I got the safari safe browsing before it started to sync.
I never get that because I don't usually have this set to sync.
And yes demo is correct in the info he posted above about the fraud warning. I just found a page with the same info about that while on my laptop searching for more info.
If you think about that message as a virus database being updated to the latest info, that seems to be pretty much what it is.
I just turned that bookmarks sync feature off and did a sync and I didn't see the message come up about the safari safe browsing
The sync works in steps. It syncs new info to what was synced before this sync. So if you synced yesterday and you added some photos today and started the sync, it will go thru all your sync options you have setup in iTunes but it will only sync the new photos because that is all it will find that is new since the last sync yesterday.
With iCloud sync turned on with a wireless network I just need to have my laptop on and in the same wireless network and it will sync the iPad to/from my iTunes on my laptop.
FYI - this feature also works of I bring my laptop and iPad to a friends house or any other wireless network and it will sync. The iPad and iTunes account just need to be on the same network for it to work.
For work instances if your laptop is on at work and you connect the iPad thru a VPN to your laptop, it may sync that way also since your on the same network thru a VPN.
I'm disabled and don't work so I am not 100%That will work but it should.
Demo - your comments are welcome, I have seen you around for awhile and we commented on similar posts and you seem to be one of the few who are level headed and actually know what they are talking about on issues.
