"imap.aol.com" is the incoming mail server.

"smtp.aol.com" is the outgoing mail server.

I just pinged imap.aol.com and it was not responding.

Ok - I found my fix.

Basically, AOL has migrated data over and certain emails were corrupted in the process. What you need to do if you are technically inclined is to find that specific email (check your IMAP log) and delete it.

If you are not technically inclined, log onto AOL.com and go to the email page and move ALL of your old emails to the Archive folder. This should fix your fetch problem.

Sorry but NO good god that is not it. Lol.

In looking at my problem starting last night:

iPad not able to retrieve aol mail

Deleted and set up account 4 times with no success

Compared set up with iPhone to find the setup was EXACTLY the same

iPhone could retrieve mail iPad could not

Less than an hour later iPad for no apparrent reason signs onto oal mail

Be aware If you delete aol to attemp to setup again you will loose your notes data

When aol magically came back up notepad recovered all info ( better keep iCloud up to date people)

At that point I from reading other posts was thinking it was an aol issue

Today at one point I lost iPad aol again

This time I lost aol in my iPhone as well at the same time period

I have two different wireless signals in home

I was connected to my primary wireless on both units

Just for fun I changed my phone to my second wireless signal

My phone came back online with aol

iPad was still down with aol

I changed iPad to second wireless

iPad came back up with aol

Thinking ahead I should likely change both devises back to first wireless signal and wait until I have the same aol problem then reset or cold boot wireless router to see if That works

To get back online with aol

Be aware that when aol was offline I still had Internet function on all levels with iPad so it was NOT a connectivity issue.

When not at home I have 4G

I have not had this issue with AT&T 4G

If anyone does have this issue with anything else other than. Wireless router let us know but I doubt it

Please let me know if this long winded step by step was of help

Many I think have dealt with this AOL issue: Cannot get mail, username or password incorrect, settings etc. etc.

I have spent countless minutes, if not hours, with Apple Support via email and phone. I have spend countless hours researching and emailing AOL customer service. At EVERY TURN Apple will say that it is an AOL issue and AOL will say it is an Apple issue. There are pages on Apple Support to deal with this issue giving the users many different options never promising to fix the issue. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899

Here is the deal: Apple or AOL does not know or admit to the problem. I have dealt with this many times with resetting, deleting the mail account and recreating, changing WIFI's (I have two), turning off WIFI's and using my Data Server (AT&T), waiting 24 hours and turning off and off both my iPhone and iPad. Somewhere/sometime the issue is taken care of and I offer a heavy sigh thinking I had if figured out only to face it in another 2 weeks.

In reading the support pages for some reason many get in front of a keyboard and mistakenly think their IQ went up 100 points and they have the answer. THEY DON'T they just think they do. I am not sure of what the answer is however: I only started having this problem once I had TWO or more Apple products in my home and ONLY after I initiated Icloud. I even purchased the extra storage in case my apple device went array somewhere else which would enable me to restore my device. SO, this morning I tried all the options, getting back on the support pages etc. What I did is go to my iCloud settings and simply TURN OFF MAIL in the iCloud settings. Well at that point everything came back. I don't know if this is the issue however this was a new move that seamed to work for me. (...at least for today)

Thank you for reading my verbose entry 🙂

Go Daddy, Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail etc. etc. are free accounts. AOL is an optional paid account that

gives the user every option OUTLOOK does and that is why I have been a paid member for 15 years. Every

one looking for a 'good time' on Craigs List has an email account such as 'good daddy' etc. AOL is a more

'secure' server that has saved my mail on thier servers for all of those 15 years. Your FREE servers (you get what you pay for) reset every few years and your mail is not garanteed to be saved for 10 or more years like mine is.

If iCloud is the problem then it is AOL detecting a dual POP attempt.

Please Michael, you are one of those thinking you get smarter alone with the keyboard. lol

Tony -

I'm sorry my work around did not solve your issue; but if you'll reread my post, it was MY solution - ie, it fixed it for me. The 'problem' could be a thousand different things, as they all return the same error. Many people reply with posts that fix it on their ends - there is not one end all solution.

For example; your iCloud fix does not pertain to me, as I dont use or have iCloud installed on my legacy Apple devices.

With that being said, I'm glad you were able to fix the problem. But please keep in mind for the future that many of us are trying to help, not 'pretend to be smarter at the keyboard'.

So sorry, you are correct 🙂

One thing is for sure!

When you call AOL or APPLE for some reason

the customer service person 'pretends' like it is the

first time they have heard of it. FOR **** sakes just

google this problem and it is all over the net in DROVES!

I am into Apple products well over $3000.00 between my iPhone and iPad.

I buy the best of the best of it and purchase the most expensive business apps

available (running my own business).

The AOL problems need to be fixed. I just wish there was someone to PUNCH IN THE NOSE over it

to get some attention. (that is not an unlike action for me by the way) .... it's on my RAP SHEET! lol!

but sometimes it needs to be done.... Tony
