The New iPad - Poor Battery - not impressed :(

Hello All,

I waited for the new ipad for 5 months before i bought it last week, I was super excited to buy the new one. After using my first tablet(the new ipad), i was very happy and impressed initial few days, with the web browsing and all other features. But i was disappointed with few things listing below.

1.Bad Battery Life - Only listening music works good and shows more battery life. Like 3 hours contineous music play, only brings down the battery by 1-2%. But 5 mins of facebook/email browsing it is like 1% of battery usage. Again if i play a simple game like chess, for 10 mins game it uses 2-3% of battery.

2.Takes too long to charge - Not sure how much time it takes from 0-100%charging, but from 40 to 100% it takes roughly 4+ hours. Here again i am very disappointed.

3.Cannot be charged from laptop - This is what i was not expecting from apple products. It cannot be charged from laptops, saying "Not Charging" message near the battery icon. Upon contacting apple care, they told some laptops are not powerful enough to charge the ipad. disgusting !!

4.Heating problem - Sometimes when i play games or browse anything, it heats up. I am not sure if it is due to the metalic body or it was also there with ipad2 too.

5.Flash - Though i new its not supporting flash, but apple peoples should also add this faciltity to support flash. This is required when you are considering it as a replacement of your laptop. Because u may need this to watch online movies and all. Though i am not much worried about this issue, but other 4 issues have really dissapointed me.

So can any one suggest, if you are also facing same problems ?

what do you recomment, to return it back and go for other options like galaxy tab ?

is it problem with my battery or a generic issue ?

Any suggestion/advice are welcome. Thanks in advance.

5. Flash. Yes, such a marvelous thing that even Adobe gave up on. Flash is on its way out. the iPad and everything else that doesn't support it are moving things forward, rather than dangle the flash worm for customers to bite the bait then complain that their tablet device is junk.

Thanks for the laugh, I really needed that today. Like watching my son think he can fly cuz he tied a towel to his shirt.

I've owned a 64GB 4g Ipad for 4 days.

Previously I owned a 7" Galaxy Tablet.

I too stream a lot of videos play a lot of games etc.

Having read a few reports about battery life, I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect, but in the 4 days I've owned it, the battery life has been much much better than the battery life in my Galaxy Tablet.

I have zero complaints.

I hardly ever have the brightness at more than 50% (both on my ipad and on my galaxy), personally I think that if people turn theirs down to the around 50% mark, after a couple of mins they wont even notice it.

I also think people are playing the numbers game too much looking at the battery meter. If its anything like the one on my galaxy, it can drop loads in a short period, then drop hardy at all for the next hour even if I'm doing exactly the same thing.

Something I did notice on my galaxy was that I had a battery meter that showed 100%, 75%, 50% etc and I paid it zero attention. Then I changed the op system and I had one that reported in percentage and for the first few days I was transfixed by how much battery was being used (turns out less was being used than before I changed the op system). I'd browse a couple of web pages, see it drop 1% and panic. In the end I simply ignored it and I never reached a point where it ran out of power before I was near a charge point and didn't need to use it for a while.

So rather than worry about it reporting a % drop when you do a couple of things, do what you want for a few hours then see how much is left, you may be surprised.

As for Flash, it's a dying technology. I just wish companies such as Native Instruments that actually sell an app for the ipad, didn't have only a flash page advertising their products, kind of stupid if you ask me (as I have pointed out to them on their forums)

Do you even read what you write?

You basically said...

Flash is a dead technology... I just wish people would stop using it.

How about another one...

Gas powered cars are dead, I just wish people would stop driving them.

Hehe, yep I can see what it looks like.

But it is a dying technology, out of all the websites I visit, there's just one that I cant view due to it using flash which is why its stuck in my mind. I'm not the only on on their forums suggesting they get with the times and change their web design. As I said above, in their products page, they advertise a app for the ipad, but if you own an ipad, you cant see their products page, hence doesn't make much sense.

A year or so ago I would have said flash is here for the long haul. Now (especially with Adobe dropping it for mobiles) I see it as something that was great in its day, but its time has passed. I suppose a sort of comparison would be like someone who still wants to use Windows XP. Certain software is still optimized for XP and the companies either have no intention of releasing updated versions for win7 (or lack the resources and haven't got around to it) a bit like my Native Instruments example with Flash. Meanwhile a lot of new programs are coming out specifically written for windows 7 and some are not compatible with XP (I use a music package called Cubase, the Cubase forums have a small percentage of people demanding help to get it running on XP when the truth is, there are still a load of XP users but it's an old operating system that the makers of Cubase no longer support).

Of course if you own an ipad and the sites etc you visit use flash, you would want it if you could. I wouldn't mind having flash at all (even brought a legit version of Adobe Flash Professional) , just saying that flash is no longer seen as the must have and must use choice for web designers and developers anymore, the success of the ipad probably is a huge reason this is so.

Well, the new display and faster processor means it needs more power... if you don't care about those, you should return the new iPad and get an iPad 2 like other posters suggested.

Otherwise... your complaints on power are a little... well.. lets go through them

1. Bad battery life, so to improve it, I need a bigger battery, problem solved! but...

2. Takes too long to charge.... hmm... bigger batter will take longer... I know! More powerful charger! oh...

3. Cannot be charged from laptop... I give up.

Agree with all your points except that u wrote about flash. No technology can die, neither apple can kill them as written by few posters. Even mac/apple was almost dead. Now see where is apple. U don't know what will happen tomorrow.

Having said that, as u suggested reducing screen brightness to appx 50% it greatly enhanced my performance. Now even playing games also is consuming less battery than earlier.

2nd thing I did was, turned off battery %age to enjoy my games/video.

Still I have some time in my hand to return this one. Slowly I am in love with my iPad and continuing observing my battery performance. I wish not to return. Let's see.

Hello,

I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch/Ipad/Iphone/Ipod Classic, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.🙂

That is ridicoulous questions!! Try these:

  1. Do the IOS update (the one that is the latest, or if you already did, then proceed to step 2)
  2. Reset All Settings: SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS
  3. Use it until it dies (automatically shuts off)
  4. Plug into Charge
  5. Leave it 1.5 hours or longer after it reaches 100% --> Undisturbed (preferably overnight)
  6. Give it a few days to Calibrate

This has helped me on my Ipod Touch 4th generation, running IOS 6.0.1
