Yes you absolutley can! Ive found way to do EVERYTHING plus more that one would typically "only be able do from computer/windows/android etc..."

Best bet-search app store for podcast player, alot free and almost all allows to upload any other audio AND media downloads from ANYWERE. As does dropbox

Android's security is much like Windows and Windows mobile. Ineffectual.

Android has nearly the same amount of viruses and trojan style programs as windows and windows mobile.

So, your Android device is not neutered, but is vulnerable to every BAD thing on the internet!

Not the case with iOS devices.

I have had a cheap Android phone for 3 years, I only use it for phone calls! I never any apps on it other than Google voice control.

Apple doesn't have to provide every app and functionality YOU think it should.

There are many third party apps that will do what the OP needs to be able to do with mp3 files.

Also, a web browser with a download manager will only download the file inside of the web browser and not to other apps in iOS.

To get a file to an appropriate app you would need to look for the Share feature in the web browser app (either by the name "Share" OR a symbol that looks like a square box with an up facing arrow through it) that will bring up a window that will allow a file from the web browser to be copied to an appropriate app of your choice.

There is no way to save any outside music files to the iOS Muisc app. This app is for iTunes content from either a computer OR paid and downloaded from the iOS iTunes store.

You need to find apps (free or paid) that will store and play different types of audio files.

Notability is just one app that can do this.

Also, look at all of the various mp3 player apps that are available for iOS.

You may or may not find a free mp3 player that will work, but maybe pay solutions that do.

All of these apps maybe NOT free, but solutions for playing outside, downloaded mp3 audio files exist in the iOS App Store!

Dropbox best, but for quick access if talking about the mp3's that play right in safari-just bookmark it!

I made folder named "audio" then sub folders, (example; meditations, bible studies, audiobooks, music, etc etc...)

One BIG TIP- rename whatevor saving to something youll remember what it! Expecially if saving alot! Sometimes automatic name is either "favorite" or bunch numbers. Hope helps!

*OH-can always open them later and still save to dropbox or any app that allows save audio mp3 files! Cuz one downside to bookmarking is if owner ever deletes, its gone. The app "pocket" saves mp3's, youtube videos, AND if pay to upgrade EVEN IF content gets deleted online-it NEVER deletes from pocket, but free version is just as good and so far the 46 or so ive saved only one youtube video got deleted.

Specifically I would like to save podcasts that are on websites for which I had to login because they are paid. I use Podcruncher to download the free ones but unless the podcaster has its own app you have to take it from the web. On iOS 6 I had a app called MP3 Free but for iOS 10 I can't seem to find one that will allow it.

This doesn't work; you're right.

There is an icon to download to Dropbox, but it does nothing. This is actually a matter of some concern, as Apple are supposed to know how to make systems that "just work".

I read that Chrome will download, but similar result: no link to iFiles or Dropbox or even iTunes.

I'm not optimistic about icab either, I'm afraid. I think I may have tried that some months ago with no success.

If anyone has actually downloaded an MP3 successfully, could they post exactly what to do? That would be great.

The other acceptable solution would be an app to record what is playing through the sound system of the iPad. There is at least one for Mac OS, which works without difficulty. I haven't found one for iPad so far.

I use a web browser with a downloader.

I believe iCab has a downloader section. I use Perfect Web Browser

Once I downloaded the album

It was a Brain Setzer album in mp3 format

I went to the download section of the web browser, I tapped on the music file and then another menu box opens and there is an option to save file or open file I saved the music files in a folder I setup in the app, Notability.

These mp3 files play in Notability and they play fine.

I have Notability files automatically save to DropBox, but for some reason, DropBox didn't save these audio files as mp3 audio files.

I subscribe to a site that has teaching materials, including listening tracks, which I need to save to use in class. With a computer I can do this, but the iPad, deliberately it seems, does not have this ability. I'm not trying to do anything illegal: I've paid my subscription.

For most things the iPad will do the job, albeit more slowly than a computer, but on a train or bus a computer is not so practical and it's great to have such a device. It just seems strange that this fairly simple procedure becomes such an issue, especially when Safari does have the save to Dropbox icon, but which does nothing.

I'll give Perfect Web Browser a test drive. I guess any app that plays files *might* save to Dropbox, if the file opens in it.

Since the last post I have found an app that seems to solve this issue. Various people have posted methods that have worked for them, but this will cost you nothing to try, as the app is free.

It is called Documents and is developed by Readdle. The key to the mp3 and other file downloads is that it has a browser that will save to the app, from which it is then possible to send the files to most other apps on your iPad.

Readdle have done a good job. I also use their ScannerPro, which makes is worth scanning small numbers of pages right where you are rather than finding a scanner. Good to find apps that do what they say on the tin.

I am not sure if this will help But let see. I am using iPad Air 2.

Actually, i am able to save mp3 files through download links but there is a drawback.

Steps

-get the link which says download or a raw link which says right click and save.

-click on link will land you on a new tab and will start playing file.

-you need to drag progress bar of playing file until end so it stop.

-once done, click/tab on share icon from top menu bar, this will give you options and one of them is to save on dropbox (assuming dropbox app installed on you ipad).

-just save it.
