White screen

I bought the new iPad on March 19th in Florida. We've since traveled to Charleston, SC. In this time the screen on the iPad has turned white - no images, nothing, just white. It has happened when rotating the iPad, when waking it, when restarting it, when changing apps but there seems to be no pattern to it. Letting it sleep and then waking it later usually returns it to normal. I took it into the Apple Store and the Genius reinstalled the firmware as a first step with instructions to call Apple Care if it happens again. This was the first time he had heard of a 'white' screen. Anyone else having an issue like this? Did you find out what was wrong?

Just got my original new iPad back. Enclosed letter said they either 1.) resolved the issue as a consequence of diagnostic tests such as an internal iPad software update (done at the Apple Store before I sent it in), charged the battery (duh), or reset and restore operations (done several times before I sent it in), or 2.) the problem could not be reproduced.

The letter also suggested that the symptoms may result from the use of incompatible iPad software versions such as iTunes (my updates are always up-to-date).

My iPad also came back without the SIM card installed. Not a big issue except I can't get the little tray out to insert the SIM. Poking a paperclip in the hole only raises the tray enough that I can see it's moving but not enough to get hold of it. The nearest Apple Store is over 90 miles away so I'll take it into the local AT&T store and hope they can get it to work.

This is turning out to be a lot of work.

I hope some of this information will help the others here experiencing the same problem.

I have the EXACT same issue that you have. This is the only thread I have found describing the similar problem. Mine will get stuck on the white screen with nothing but a restore alleviating the problem. While plugged in it also repeatedly makes the sound you hear when first plugging it in. However, the problem eventually returns at a random unlock. Let me know what you find out. I can't make it to an apple store for several days.

I was doing the prep for returning the iPad to Apple. I did the Settings -> Restore. The iPad restarted back to the white screen and that was it. It wouldn't restart. It wouldn't go to sleep. It sat there and pinged like it was sleeping and waking repeatedly. Plugging it in brought back the 'plugging in' noises. It just lay there and shone its white screen at me. It's now on its way back to Apple for replacement. Hope the engineers can figure this out.

BTW, do any of you use the magnetic cover on your iPad?

My iPad is doing the exact same thing. It started right after the last os update. the tech who helped me get the ups set up for return was rude to me :(. It's a hardware problem. Tech support has been trying to fix it (software) for days. It gets better... Then starts up again. After restore it goes away until I rotate, open programs... Etc. also it smells hot when its on. wish I would have bought the droid. The tech support at apple was very rude to me!
