Many cameras have digital media cards which are more compatible through USB readers than directly connected to the computer. The advantage of using a reader, is that you don't waste valuable camera battery life. It would help to know what camera you have.

That camera according to: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CPP1/CPP1A.HTM Takes SD/MMC cards. Look for a USB to SD/MMC card reader made for the Mac compatible with your installed Mac operating system. If you are sticking with 10.6.8, try to look for a card reader known to be both 10.6 and 10.7 compatible, as those are more likely to be compatible with 10.6.8 than one that just says 10.6 and up

From Nikon, their software is compatible with 10.6.4 and Power PC G4 1GHz or above / PowerPC G5 / Intel Core series / Intel Xeon series according to:

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/viewnx2/spec.htm.

As for:

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/capturenx2/spec.htm

has less chance of being compatible, since it doesn't even mention 10.6 Same with:

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/control_pro2/spec.htm

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/control_pro/spec.htm

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/software/img_auth/spec.htm

iPhoto will take any SD/MMC card as input, and so will most other Mac compatible photography software.

This link below explains your Virtualization software options for Windows.

The good news is your Mac does support Windows virtualization if using their software is a must.

Well that's Nikon's problem. Apple and many other developers have set a USB standard known as HID. If it isn't followed to the letter, certain operating systems won't be able to understand them. They have a whole page for software developers to look it over on http://developer.apple.com/ So it isn't as if Nikon isn't well informed. I would tackle it from the Nikon side until they fix it.

Good morning
