Combining PDFs in Preview
You used to be able to drag and drop pages from one Preview document to another. That feature is not longer available. Is there anyway to combine PDF documents into one file now?

It's still there:
Mac OS X v10.6: How to combine PDF documents using Preview: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4075
Drag the thumbnail of one PDF document (source) over of the thumbnail of the other PDF document (destination) and release the mouse or trackpad button when the pointer shows a green circle with a plus symbol in it. This will copy all pages from the source PDF and add them to the end of the destination PDF.
Tried this out today 06 August 2014. The method WORKS as mentioned.

It actually does work in Mavericks, just as it did before. Here is the trick:
1) View thumnails of first file in Preview.
2) Drag icon of next file ABOVE NOT BELOW the faint horizontal line after the last page of the first document.
3) Continue with additional files.
4) Save
Now, the additional pdfs will be incorporated into the original file.
How it works for you all.

Yes, I agree. Dragging files in the thumbnail section of preview add them to the document.
This being said, I could not figure out the meaning of this faint horizontal line. It has something to do with splitting documents or so, but the meaning remains obscure to me. I avoid this line without knowing what it does.
I have the same issue -- unable to combine pdf files in Preview, by selecting and dragging pages from one file in to another file. Software I am using is OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5 and Preview version 8.0 (859.21). I am also unable to "save as pdf" in the print menu. "Export PDF" causes preview to become unresponsive (reported this to Apple). I believe my problem was due to one of the pdf files being password encrypted.
Since the problem file was a receipt mailed by National Car Rental, I logged in to my National account and downloaded a copy from their website. That turns out to not be password encrypted, and now I can combine the files. "Get Info" shows the password encrypted file was encoded with "iText 1.3 by lowagie.com (based on itext-paulo-153)".
My solution to this problem was to gain access to a non-paswword-encrypted version of the pdf file. Hope this helps.
THIS WAS THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR!
so simple yet so frustrating.. you have to see a "+" sign otherwise it doesnt combine!
