I can't save pdf from Safari

I have witnessed an evolution, or different iterations of problems as major components are updated. For example, deleteing those two Adobe files has worked great for me (muiltiple times). Now, I have this periodic pattern of pdf articles not loading and rendering properly in Preview. But it often doesn't display this problem. Sometimes, just reloading the same pdf magically results in a clean Preview pdf file. Other times, the problem persists, and I have to manually download the pdf file (assuming the web site allows me to), and open directly into Acrobat Pro XI. It's very odd and haphazard as these things go. (MBA 2013, 10.9.2, everthing current.).

No. Firefox doesn't work, either.
