Why won't PDF files open anymore?

Suddenly my iMac won't open most .PDF files - specifically those that are imbedded in the body of emails or may be identified by a hotlink on websites. But if one is simply attached to an email, that seems to open!?! The only thing I think I've done since everything worked properly was to agree to install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and Adobe Flash Player. Can anyone help me to rectify whatever error I'm experiencing so that I can open .PDF files once again? Thanks, in advance, for your help!

I had been struggling with this issue as well and had spent quite a bit of time on the phone with the e*trade help desk because I couldn't download my pdf statements in Safari or Firfox. They helped me with a workaround (right click on the link and then select download as pdf) but on another website this didn't work. The solution provided by Linc worked. Thanks!!

Just started having the same problems with PDF's. Went first to Finder > Go > Library > Internet Plugins and there was nothing in the folder. How do I get to main Root folder > library > Internet Plugins. Any help would be appreciated. This problem occurs on both my MacBook pro running OS10.6.8 and my Imac with Mountain Lion, but not on my old MacBook Pro running 10.4.11.

If you are using 10.7.5, or as a matter of fact most of all X's you do NOT need Adobe to open PDF's. Preview will do the job. If you are using Safari it will use Preview automatically. If you are using Firefox you will need to go to Preferences> Applications> and choose Preview as the means of opening PDF files. I trashed Adobe 9 and Adobe 11 because they had Plug-ins that worked and then didn't work. My frustration is over thanks to a buddy at our Mac club.

I, too, was having problems opening PDF files. It always defaulted to Preview, which I didn't want. A call to Apple cleared it up for me. Here's what we did.

1) Highlight a PDF file you want, but do not open.

2)From the drop-down menu under Finder>File, click Get Info, or use the keyboard shortcut Command-G.

3)Go to dropdown menu under Open With. You should see the Adobe Reader icon. Highlight that.

4)Once done, click "change all" then close the Get info.

5)Now Adobe Reader should be the defualt app for your PDF files.

Worked for me. I did, however, check through other folders to make sure all preview docs had made the switch. There were a couple stragglers I had to redo.

Hope this helps your printing problem, too.
