How do I restore contacts from icloud to my iphone?

I just lost all my contacts today, without changing any settings and without updating my phone or anything.

Thank you. This worked for me. I have just got a new ISP so had to change my apple id. I lost my contacts and all calendar entries. I signed out of iCloud on iPhone 6 in >settings >iCloud. I then logged into my iTunes account on my mac and "restored from last back up" and it restored everything. Very relieved.

I tried exactly what you said and it did not restore my contacts…. I hooked my iPhone to my iMac and in iTunes it says i backed up my phone to iCloud the other day but to my computer in november 2014 and when i clicked restore it tried to restore to the 2014 backup on my computer….. I'm so not technologically inclined. I really am kinda dumb for computers but for Jeopardy and Wheel Of Fortune I kick butt! I need one phone number I deleted back and can't seem to get it. Someone please help me!

I was trying to follow lungs instructions. I can turn off contacts in "settings" "Icloud" but I can't see any "keep" or "merge" buttons to do the rest of the process. Can anyone help? Thanks

If you had the backup file on your computer it might be possible using 3rd party software to extract the app data for a specific app from the backup and copy it back to the iphone (for example, see http://www.techsummary.in/windows-software/how-to-retrieve-icloud-password/msg10 092/?topicseen#msg10092 ), however this wouldn't be possible if your only backup is in iCloud. As far as I know there is no mechanism to do anything other than restore the entire backup from iCloud.

Turning Contacts off and on, restarting iPhone, etc did not work for me. Apple Store Genius Bar tech went to Settings : General : Reset (very bottom of General) and restored default settings, then restarted. After a couple of minutes my iCloud Contacts repopulated the iPhone. Note: resetting settings will undo any settings you've customized (like screen background image).
