Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I killed Rosetta!

MacBook6,1 with Mac OS 10.6.8.

I was trying to get ScanWizard 5 to work on this computer, fiddling with permissions on the ScanWizard folder and CFMSupport folder. Now, none of the Rosetta applications would launch, including ScanWizard.

This happens even if I log in as an administrator.

I'm in the process of downloading the 10.6.8 down to 10.6.5 updaters, attempting to reinstall. Our reinstall DVD is 10.6.4.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

$ sudo chmod +x L*

$ ls -l

total 16

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 19840 May 19 2009 LaunchCFMApp

That did the trick! Yay!

I think what happened is that I changed the permission using finder. Instead of changing things to +rwx, it changed things to +rw, and somehow got rid of the +ox.

I think this gives me an idea with how to fix ScanWizard as well. All the ScanWizard support libraries probably needs to +x. (Do I dare touch that tonight? I will! I never learn!)

Thank you so much everyone!

I know... I wanted to give you full credit, too, since you were on to it, but the system only lets me give you half. So, here are lots and lots of kudos and thanks for sticking with me!!!!! I thought that if the first two groups have an "x" then the administrator could execute it, too, but I guess I was wrong.

Also, funny that Finder turns off the x when you use Get Info to change the read/write settings. I'm not sure, in fact, how I turned it off. I didn't know the launcher was there, and I certainly never touched the Carbon directory. Maybe there was a hidden symbolic link or something, with an accidental -L.

Also, for others who got here searching for ScanWizard 5 , here are the commands that let me run ScanWizard under all accounts. If you don't want the "verbose" you can use -R instead of -Rv. This worked with version 7.71 running under Intel 10.6.8; it did not work under 7.565 running under PPC 10.4.11, although it does make it run more smoothly under the admin account. I will post an update if I figure that out.

You do need to be logged in as an administrator for sudo to work. I couldn't get the -u option to work.

$ cd /Library/Frameworks

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx Microtek*.*

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx KodakCMS.*

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx USMFramework.*

$ cd /Library/

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx CFMSupport

$ cd /Library/"Application Support"

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx "ScanWizard 5 V7"

$ cd /Applications/"ScanWizard 5 Folder"

$ sudo chmod -Rv +rx *.*
