Secure link to iTunes Store failed

I can't log in or connect to iTunes store from my PC. About two weeks ago I was watching movie on my AppleTV and all of a sudden it stoped in the middle of it and asaid I was not connected to iTunes. Ever since then I cannot connect. When I run diagnostics I get msg "secure link to iTunes Store failed" and when I click on the Help button it tells me that I am not connected to the internet.

That is not true as I can browse the net and I can even log into my accout on line but just cannot log in to iTunes or connect to the Store. Please, help.

If I click on the 'iTunes Store' link on the left, then I cannot open the App store (network timed out error). However if I search for some text from the Search bar on the right top side, I do get results, however the formatting of the page is severely hit, all the text comes in one single column. I can click on the results and even open any app store app page or something, but I am not sure why iTunes is displayng such garbled text blocks !!

Mates, I have been reading such suggestions all over the web for months by now. Nevertheless, none of the suggestions including the aboves have worked for me. Let me tell you my story:

This itunes thing was just working fine until the upgrade of the windows OS from XP to 7 64bit in the office. Followingly and suddenly, when any of us in the office tried to open itunes this very annoying phrase has begun popping up; "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again." Whatever I tried, I could not able to solve this problem. The things to solve this problem I have done so far are as listed below:

1- Uninstalling and reinstalling of itunes software

2- Updating to final version (currently it is 10.6.1.7)

3- Searching and finding every single itunes related files within the pc and deleted them, then gave a fresh install

4- Removing pop-up blockers from each and every web-browser

5- Enabled TCP and UDP ports 3689 both from the firewall server and the client's windows firewall

6- Used "netsh winsock reset" command after running cmd in administrator mode

7- Added inbounds rules to windows firewall to allow connections for iTunes

8- Changed the DNS addresses several times and currently using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

9- Repaired quicktime and itunes more than several times

10- Disabled the firewall module of Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security A/V software

11- Ran diagnostics of iTunes software and got the "Secure links to iTunes Store failed" statement with the following results (in contrast to enabling the ports both from firewall server and the client pc's windows firewall, the report still says itunes is not enabled in firewall. And I could not be able to solve this as well):

Jun 5, 2012 6:52 AM in response to asengur

asengur, error 50, refer here:

Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)

These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:

  1. Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
  2. Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
  3. Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
  4. Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
  5. There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
  6. Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
  7. Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

Dear wiclee,

Thanks for those advices. However, no score at the end 😟

First, as you have suggested, I had too thought the problem might be occuring due to Trend Micro av software, and it seemed very logical. But, even the uninstallment of that sw didn't work.

Then, I tried reseting TCP/IP....Result; complete unsatisfaction

For the options, connecting directly to the internet, bypassing the router etc; as this is office, no chance for that either.

Trying another known-good computer; mate yet again this is office and all of them in the same condition 😟

Any other good suggestions?
