I just looked for that adapter and came up empty as well. The eBay seller I bought it from is "no longer a registered user".

I don't believe the AV cable you're using is going to work. Give me a few days and I may have another option for you.

I did fabricate a cable and have the pinouts for it, but it was for another Keyspan adapter that I no longer use. Should you want to fabricate your own, use the references in the User Tip. It will be somewhat of a challenge because the ImageWriter pinout numbers in Apple's documentation are incorrect - see this post for the sordid details. Pay close attention to Mr. Grant Bennet-Alder's comments regarding Figure D-1.

Ok. Well I did find a MiniDIN8 Female inline Jack on Amazon. I think for the building stage here, I'll just build a straight through adapter first, and if that works maybe I can ge the pin out right off the cable, and clean the whole mess up.

I thought about doing that but there isn't a lot of room to work inside that connector's shell, and I don't like a big mess of solder connections and shrink wrap in the middle of a cable. That's just me. Even if it were hidden behind furniture I'd know it's there.

If you don't have modular crimp tool, and want to cut the Lantronix's RJ45 cable, the cable part number is 500-103. You can buy replacements from Mouser, $8.

For now I'll just make the straight through adapter, and see if I can get it to print. Once I do, I'll most likely manually find the pinouts on the entire cable and make a clean one.

Thanks for the part number! It will be handy for the future, but you are right, those inline conenctors can be a bear to work with...

Preferably I'll be able to crimp an RJ45 onto a prewired MINIDIN8 Male.

Ok, I think I have the same results as you do in the screenshots now.

My concerns:

With this cable, I am not getting the echo of the boot process from the lantronix. The other cable gave me that.

I still am unable to ping the printer from the hostname of the lantronix/device, or from the hostname of the lantronix. It will not add from hostname, but does add from IP.

When I attempt to print, it clears the Q, but no action.

I still think something is set wrong in the Lantronix, but I just do not know...

Hi John,

You won't be able to ping the hostname, only the print server's IP address. Don't try to add the printer using its hostname, which might be possible but I don't consider it an idea worth pursuing.

The User Tip is under construction. The Lantronix is a very capable but complicated beast, and my goal is to make setup as simple as possible for Mac users who cannot use the EZWebCon software - which I evaluated using a Windows PC, but determined to be just as complicated anyway. Using Telnet or its embedded web page is a better idea.

If the boot messages are not being sent to the IW from Port 1 then your cable probably isn't right. I'm working on an off the shelf solution for that too.

John, you might consider fabricating your own cable after all. I can't seem to find an off the shelf cable anywhere on Earth that functions with that print server, and a key missing component is the Mini-DIN 8 to DB9 adapter I've been using. Lacking a commonly available cable, a custom cable may be required.

It's been a while since I posted here. I've been using my two imagewriters successfully with OS X 10.6.8. I've been very hesitant to update my OS, but I now need to upgrade to 10.7.5. That being said, I don't want to mess up my ImageWriter setup, so I want to know, once I update my OS, what is the easiest way to update the ImageWriter driver packet without messing up anything else related to the imagewriter? I have the driver packet for 10.7 already.
