iCloud integration causes Outlook to hang when switching to Calendar for a LONG TIME?

I've been working on integrating iCloud (contacts and calendar) into outlook (tried 2007 & 2010). With 3 kids I have to integrate our home and work calendars if we expect to have any chance of remembering anything.

I thought I had found a solution, using the basic windows iCloud control panel and then using a free piece of software from CodeTwo - http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/ - which essentially just keeps any of your outlook folders (contacts, calendar, etc) in sync with one of the iCloud generated folders. One way either direction or Two way.

This all worked just fine... except...through process of elimination I found that once the iCloud control panel has generated it's iCloud 'pst' and Outlook is opening it; that Outlook takes an excruciatingly long time (minutes) to switch into the Calendar. I don't see this behavior when switching to Contacts or back to Mail. This persists even if I turn syncing for anything outlook related off at the iCloud control panel, presumably because the iCloud folders are still present in outlook. It isn't until I remove them, that things go back to normal.

Curiously, I'm doing this on two different pc's. One has normal Outlook (local files) and all works fine, while the other has an Exchange Server account, it's the one that's hanging.

2017... aaand problem is NOT solved yet. Windows 10, latest Outlook from Office 365, new computer... after icloud outlook integration is installed, switching to calendar view in outlook takes very very long time. Problem is solved when disabling the outlook icloud add on, but then icloud calenders are not syncing obviously. I may have to forget the icould calendard and swith to use e.g. Google calendar with my family.

WORKAROUND

This is not a fix, but a workaround that I've employed. Thought others might benefit it.

For me, it was the clicking out of the calendar which causes the delay so I simply open two instances of Outlook. One is for my Calendar and the other is for all other Outlook tasks (e.g. mail, notes, contacts). I actually got used to it pretty quickly.

Still eager for a fix from Apple, but this might save some folks some time.

This doesn't seem to work as it also disables synchronization. Are you sure you still have the full functionality? How do you ensure it still syncs back the entries made into the calendar directly in Outlook?

Sorry to say that: but this is one of the many small problems that make using Apple products so annoying lately. I guess soon I will have all these problems solved without the help of Apple programmers ...

Oh...what's the matter??? I still have this issue, 3 years... Maybe Apple just don't care about the Windows Outlook users so much. Actually, I found that only Calendar Tab in Outlook is slow for me, while opening Contacts Tab is much faster. So I think the issue could be narrowed down in Calendar syncing. I noticed that a few years ago, the iCloud sync option allows us to tick on Mails, Contacts, Calendars respectively. But in the newer releases, they were merged together. A work-around for Apple might be going back to the original designs.

Before using my iPhone and migrating, I was a big fan of Google Nexus. But one day after my upgrading to Android 5.0, it messed up my contacts in the Google cloud service. I bear a few months' life of identifying caller by voice when receiving calls. One day I could not bear it any more, and bought an iPhone next morning. When the day comes again, switching to Windows phones and using all Windows solutions might be the only way out for us...😟

Well I don't know why this works, but when I use the folder list instead of clicking the calendar on navigation pane, this issue goes away for me. I just simply use the folder list to switch between mail and calendar and no more delay. I don't know why this works for me, but it does. If this works for everyone else it would confirm this is a problem with outlook.

I found the following partial workaround for Outlook 2013:

Someone mentioned above that switching to calendar view worked when selecting it from the Folders menu. This has worked well for me too,Outlook stopped crashing and there is no delay switching from the Exchange calendar to the iCloud calendar.

So I decided to create a Shortcuts Group in the Shortcuts folder, and then add one Shortcut to the Exchange calendar and another shortcut to my iCloud calendar.

Unfortunately this does not allow you to see both calendars simultaneously (like in overlay mode) but at least no more crashes.
