iCloud integration causes Outlook to hang when switching to Calendar for a LONG TIME?

I've been working on integrating iCloud (contacts and calendar) into outlook (tried 2007 & 2010). With 3 kids I have to integrate our home and work calendars if we expect to have any chance of remembering anything.

I thought I had found a solution, using the basic windows iCloud control panel and then using a free piece of software from CodeTwo - http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/ - which essentially just keeps any of your outlook folders (contacts, calendar, etc) in sync with one of the iCloud generated folders. One way either direction or Two way.

This all worked just fine... except...through process of elimination I found that once the iCloud control panel has generated it's iCloud 'pst' and Outlook is opening it; that Outlook takes an excruciatingly long time (minutes) to switch into the Calendar. I don't see this behavior when switching to Contacts or back to Mail. This persists even if I turn syncing for anything outlook related off at the iCloud control panel, presumably because the iCloud folders are still present in outlook. It isn't until I remove them, that things go back to normal.

Curiously, I'm doing this on two different pc's. One has normal Outlook (local files) and all works fine, while the other has an Exchange Server account, it's the one that's hanging.

2017... aaand problem is NOT solved yet. Windows 10, latest Outlook from Office 365, new computer... after icloud outlook integration is installed, switching to calendar view in outlook takes very very long time. Problem is solved when disabling the outlook icloud add on, but then icloud calenders are not syncing obviously. I may have to forget the icould calendard and swith to use e.g. Google calendar with my family.

You will have more than one Outlook account in your profile (an Exchange and an IMAP account for example).

In Account Settings, try switching the default account to your IMAP account instead of the Exchange one, then test. I did, and that annoying problem went away.

I then switched it back to using Exchange Account as the default, and I haven't had the problem since.

Hope it works for you guys.

I had to disable iCloud in order to have an acceptable response time when I navigate to my Outlook calendar. 5+ minutes was not acceptable. I don't have the time to try to make this work. It will be nice one day when software simply works the way that you are led to believe without having to jump through hoops to get it to work. I am running Office 2010 with Outlook on 64-bit Windows 7. Congratulations to those of you who were able to get it to work.

I too am experiencing the same issues. My system is Win 7 64bit, Outlook 2010 & iCloud 2.1.2.

The issue is persistent, regardless if iCloud Calendars are selected for display (Outlook Calendar navigation bar), or toggling between different “default” calendars.

It appears right now my only choice is to remove the iCloud app unless someone else has a resolution.

I had this issue after installing iCloud Control Panel. Eventually I just wanted my Outlook 2010 calendar back the way it was. So I first had to uncheck "Contacts, Calendars & Tasks with Outlook" in the iCloud Panel. Then, in Outlook, I went to File -> Account Settings -> Data Files and deleted the iCloud file. It seems to have taken care of the calendar lag and gotten rid of the additional Outlook calendars that iCloud created. It's not exactly a "solution", just getting it back to the way it was without iCloud.

As a work-around, I disabled iCloud by launched the app from Task Manager and simply signed out. That's all I did, and kept the software installed because I had not yet performed a backup and didn't want to risk the potential chance for data loss with removing the app. My Calendar is once again back to its normal snappy response-time without having to pain-stakenly wait for it to sync up first.

I used to a high level of regard and respect to the Apple software team on innovation and Quality Control. Not any more. Starting with IOS 6 and the its many subsequent "patches" was a huge joke. Sure seems like QC has gone down hill since Jobs left.
