How can I capture streaming online video?

Hello,

I may be wrong, but I don't think OSX Lion comes with any app to capture online video (youtube, etc.)

How can I do such?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

You need to switch on the develop menu for the equivalent function. Check thic video to see how:

However, I'm still struggling to find the actual viedo file even with this newer method. Admitedly this video uses version 6 but the options are pretty much identical. In the video the guy only seems to get one file to choose as a result but I see loads and none seem to be the one I'm after!

Thanks, Beta.

I spent a couple hours with the new 'dual monitor' wonderworks in Mavericks... nightmare, due to the fact that the dock and menu bars come and go. When one monitor is in full screen to view the video directions, then the menu is not available to me in the Safari that I am trying to follow him in.

Yes, he's using Safari 6. I have 7. Not the same.

He refers to the 'alt' key.. Is he using a PC?

He clicks on 'this little icon' so fast I could not see it, being so small on my screen.

This would be great if it worked.

Yep - so much changes so fast these days it's a wonder anything works at all. The alt key on a mac is the one between ctrl and cmd - the weird icon that kinda looks like two levels. I think Apple started labelling it as such when they started to get a decent volume of PC people migrating across.

Anyway, after much arsing about trying to get this working I found an easier solution this afternoon. Just tried it and it works well, and that solution is Firefox. Downloaded it and went to their add ons and added something called Download Helper. When you play a video you just click on the extra button in your Firefox toolbar and it gives you all the various quality versions to choose to download. Works very well and the guy who created the add on seems to keep it up to date with the ever changing You Tube etc...

Give it a try - it saved me tearing out what was left of my hair.

Hi. Thanks.

I've had this on both Macs for a long time. Since Mavericks, it is rare that it will work. The icon is usually greyed out.

Like you said. 'Things change so often' Ilivid worked a couple times. Now it won't do anything.

Folks frequently find something that works the first time for them, then tell the rest of the world how dumb they are for not knowing about it.
