This worked for me too, I went to File->Import->Reimport From Camera/Archive.  When I clicked on the "Share" button on the far right side of the center "bar", it told me what the problem was.  The unselectable menu item is completely uninformative.  It should always let you select it, and then tell you why you can't share, if there is a problem

im on version 10.0.8 and when i go to share to DVD no window comes up and when the rotating circle keeps going around i click on it and its been "rendering" for over 6 hours.  is there another way i can export it so i can just burn it to a DVD using disk utility?

The first thing is to make sure you have the Timeline selected.

So, since i don't have the share tab up on my menu bar, I have to share from the drop down menu or from the toolbar. When in one of those share options, the only thing i can successfully export is an xml file. It won't work for youtube, vimeo, or dvd.

Also, how do i change what type of file it is that its saved as? like saving it as an mp4? The only file i seem to be able to export it as is an xml.

This thread is over a year old and isn't relevant any more. There is a share button on the right end of the toolbar.

well it may be relevant to others, as i'm having a similiar problem. i guess i could start another thread but this one came up in a search so i posted.

i know theres a share button in the toolbar, i said,

"I have to share from the drop down menu or from the toolbar"

my question was in those those share options i'm having trouble figuring out how to save it as a different file type in mmy HD. It also won't upload it as a usable video to youtube or vimeo, so i was trying to ask how i do that. im sure it's not that hard, i'm just new and i'm kinda stuck so if someone could help me out I'd appreciate it. thanks

What file type? Sorry I can't guess what you're trying to do. You can export a master file, which is QuickTime. In settings you can select the codec or the export options for Apple devices, which is .m4v, or for Mac or PC, which is .mp4, or for the web, which is .mov.

Don't know what the problem with uploading to YouTube or Vimeo is. Can't rtell from your description what's happening, other than it's not working.

Like I said an mp4. Or other file types. I'm new and unfamiliar with the different ways I can export a finished piece. Exporting the master file saves it as QuickTime? So far it's only been able to export an XML file when exporting the master. I would like to be able to save a copy of the final cut to my desktop in a universally viewable format, like mp4 or some other file type that is easy to upload and view online.

As far as YouTube/Vimeo goes, it simply won't accept whatever file type that's being uploaded. Everything is fine with the account/Internet. Any tips on how exactly to change the file type to an acceptable format for YouTube would be appreciated. This would be my first upload from fcpx which is why I'm having some difficulty. Thanks

this is the error is keep getting trying to export to youtube:

And the other problem, trying to save the master file as an mp4, mpeg, .mov is still there also. When i export the master track the only thing that happens is an xml file will show up in my movies folder. I can't find anywhere to change the destination (like desktop) and i can't find anywhere to change the file type.

    isn't there a way to:

"save as" -new movie.mp4 or -new movie.mpeg?

    "destination" -desktop

I have not got a clue what you're doing. The only XML export is in the Fike menu. If you export using the Share button that you found there is no way to export XML. If you export a master file in The settings tab there is a popup that allows you to set an export for computer, Mac or PC, that's an MPEG-4 file. Look at the bottom of the export dialog. It will tell you what type of file you're exporting.

Export a QuickTime master file and use that to upload to YouTube if you having a problem with YouTube uploads.

Again this is a really old thread. Please do a forum share for this error. There are a lot if messages about this and a lot if different solutions. The cause isn't always the sane.

When you export a master file there are options in the dialog about where to send the file. When you click the Next button you get a dialog that asks you where to save it. Can you post a screen shot if the export settings you're using?
