When I run ical on my mac I get the error

The server responded with an error.

Access to “name of an event in my calendar” in “category of event in my calendar” in account “iCloud” is not permitted.

The server responded:

“403”

to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.

How can I fix this problem?

I have searched through old events to delete but they seem to repopulate and keep the error going. The event in quest was created in an old .mac account

I deleted the files as you suggested, but now all my calendar accounts are gone. New cache files were created when I started Calendar again, but nothing is being rebuilt. Doesn't appear that iCal is doing anything in the Activity Monitor either.

Any idea how long this will take? Fortunately, all of my iCal calendars are still in iCloud but those aren't syncing either.

Exact same thing happens to me. I am using Apple Mail (not Gmail), and Apple's Calendar, and iCloud; no Enterprise server on my end. Late 2011 MacBook Pro with latest software updates, iPad 2 with latest software, and iPhone 5S with latest software.

When someone using Outlook sends me a modification of an existing shared meeting they originally created, trying to accept the update generates the error message. The options, of course, are "revert to server," which leaves you with the original, unmodified, appointment; "try again," which gives you the same error message again immediately, and "ignore," which gives you a brief bit of time where you think the issue is solved by an over-ride, but then, alas, the error message pops back up.

So, let's try to be clever and accept the update on one of my other devices, shall we? On my iPhone and iPad, I cannot even open the e-mail attachment containing the appointment - the attached appointment blinks, indicating that I did, in fact, click on it and try to open it, but nothing happens. Nothing at all. On my iOS devices, in Settings, under Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, I have "Shared Calendar Alerts" set to "on," which is supposed to notify "about new, modified, or deleted shared events." But, not so much in my case.

This happens whether the person who originally created the shared appointment, and who is sending the modification, has an Enterprise server, or not. I spent some time in an online chat (about half an hour) then on the phone (another half an hour or so) with Apple yesterday about this. I even directed them to this conversation. In the end, all they could recommend at this point was for me to :

  • Go into System Preferences, under "iCloud," and uncheck "Calendars."
  • Close Calendar
  • Reopen Calendar
  • Close Calendar again
  • Go back into System Preferences, under "iCloud," and re-check "Calendars" to let it re-establish my calendar with iCloud.

So I've tried that, and the calendar is re-establishing itself in the cloud now. I'll see if that fixes the issue. They are aware of the issue, though, and seem to be working on it.

The issue seems to be related to permissions or access to the pre-established iCloud shared calendar item - part of the error message (on my machine, at least) indicates that access to the the specific calendar item is not permitted. However, I walked through some of that with Apple, and they seemed to think that since I can access iCloud from my side, and establish my own calendar invitations, based on what info they had, that it shouldn't be a function of something on my computer not being set correctly.

Also, I think that under similar circumstances, if the sender doesn't try to move the DATE of the appointment, but instead just modifies the contents - like updates a conference call-in number or something, I don't THINK I get the error message, but the updated content never takes, either. I haven't had this happen in a while, and haven't had someone try it to see if my memory is correct, but I think that's the case. I may need to go try that to see what happens.

Maybe the OS update corrects the issue for Gmail, but I'm not using Gmail. Maybe my re-establishing my iCloud account will help my issue; or the update will help with Apple Mail, too. If not, maybe they are working on it and a fix will be forthcoming, but I'd rather not have to go through the machinations I've seen here and elsewhere to fix the issue, or write some Apple Script thing to deal with it as I've also seen suggested - I assume this a "relatively simple" (easy for me to say!) programming issue that can be addressed.

And as long as we're on Calendar-Outlook-Shared Appointments, here's another, semi-related issue - when someone with Outlook sends me a shared appointment invitation to an appointment that they have created on their calendar as an "all day" appointment (i.e., appears only at the top of their calendar, not blocking out the whole day as a "timed" event) when I accept that on my MacBook Pro, or my iPhone, or my iPad, rather than getting imported as an "all day" event, it shows up as a timed event blocking out from midnight to midnight. I am unable to modify the invitation or the appointment so that it resides at the top of my calendar - the "all day" box is grayed out; I assume this is because I am not the creator of the appointment. So something is lost in translation there, too. So far, I have noticed this happening when the sender is using an Enterprise server; I don't know if the same problem occurs when there is not an Enterprise server in the mix.

I was getting this error recently after being sent an updated invitation from Outloook, very frustrating. This was on Lion. The way I solved it was:

1) Decline the original invitation in iCal.

2) Login to the iCloud web interface and select calendar

3) Go to settings and enable "show declined invitations"

4) Delete the offending event.

5) Go back to Mail and click on the revised invitation, it now appears in iCal fine.

I don't whether the declining was necessary, it may be that just using the iCloud web interface to delete the original event from the calendar would be enough.

Hope this helps someone.

I get this error when I try to download plane reservations from the airline to iCal. the appointment seemingly goes into my calendar, but then I get this error message every 30 seconds or so when I try to use or look at iCal.

As I fly every week this is a VERY ANNOYING problem. I'm using Mavericks, so can't create a local calendar. As it is an appoinment I am downloading it doesn't ask me to accept or refuse an invite.

Like Brian3451 I am starting to wonder if I should try to find another calenday (before I go crazy and have to buy a WIndows machine with Outlook), but really I just want Apple to sort the problem.

Any more ideas?

Hey Apple, this thread has more than 41 THOUSAND views. I think that you need to do something to fix it!!

Here is my situation - I accept an invitation to a webinar or from an airline. Actually, I dont even need to accept it, I just put it in my calendar. I start getting the error. There is an ignore button in the error notice - a quick fix would be to actually make the ignore button work. I dont give a **** about the connection to another server, I just want the calendar entry. Let me ignore the error!!

My solution is to simply copy the rest of the calendar entry into another appointment. Annoying, but less so than the error messages.

Yep; you call, you write, you ask, you plead, and. . . nothing. This clearly is nothing more than a programming glitch - unless it's intentional - and therefore could be fixed, and should be fixed. I am not happy that it has not been - the promise of all of my Apple products working together is just false, and I'm really having just as much trouble as I had when I had Windows-based stuff, but am paying a big premium for the privilege. Apple should be embarrassed, if not ashamed.

Yeah, sad. I saw your post as I am still tracking it when I described the problem in detail in my post back in August of 2013. It is amazing how Apple is voted year after year #1 in support. Well, I just jumped to a Samsung Galaxy, not waiting to upgrade from my Iphone 5 to an Iphone 6. And to be honest, I have been running vmware Fusion on my Macbookpro's forever, and I am considering when my current MBP 2012's become old, there will be no Upgrate to MBP as there was with the 2008 to 2010 to 2012 x 2 each time. I am thinking quad core i7, 32GB Ram, 512 SSD, Hypervisor bare metal, and Win7/RH Enterprise, and Ubuntu desktop has really come a long way to bring Linux to the non-linux friendly average user. Even has smart corners, and other "feels like", and of course you get so much more hardware for the money. It won't be Coco, but I think I will get over it.... It is a sad time, as I have been using Apple products since the Apple II. So it is nothing I will celebrate that is for sure. 😟 Of course google is all around the tablets and phone, but I avoid anything google. I may be leaving, but I don't have to go to the dark side!! 😉

AAAAAAARGH!

This is happening to me AGAIN, RIGHT NOW! One of my clients scheduled a conference call for next week at 2:00 and invited a raft of people; I accepted the invitation, and it went on my calendar just fine. Then fifteen minutes later my client had to push the call back to 2:30.

So I tried to accept the update. Nope. Silly me.

Can't do it. Message pop-up:

The Server Responded With an Error.

Access to “Follow-up Discussion on Water Issues” in “Calendar” in account “iCloud” is not permitted.

The server responded:

“403”

to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.

So, my options, as given to me by the ever-helpful software engineers at Apple:

A. Hit "ignore." Sure, let's try that. Hey, that gets the pop-up window to go away... oh, wait- then it comes back.

B. Hit "try again." Ok, the pop-up goes away and comes back instantly.

C. Hit "revert to server." Well, that just leaves me with the orginal appointment, which is now at the wrong time. So that's no help.

D. Let's try to go into the appoinment itself, and just move it down by a half hour. Nope. Can't do that, presumably because I'm not the organizer. So this fine function is protecting me from myself, I guess. Whew, that's good; I might actually have moved the appointment to the new time.

E. Let's try what I've seen suggested elsewhere - go and decline the first appointment, then go to the update and accept that one. Nope. Now all I have is the original appointment, declined, not on my calendar, and a notice to the client that I have declined their invitation to be on the conference call they scheduled. So NOW I have to email the client, apologize for the fact that they think I declined their appointment, and try to explain to them that its Apple's fault, and I look like an idiot who doesn't know how to operate one of the most basic function of my computer.

Wow, Apple, that's REALLY GREAT software engineering and user support. Top notch. I am in utter awe of your abilities. Thanks for making my day just a little more complete, and making me look just that much more capable and on the ball to my client.

Be realistic, in 2 years apple has not attempted to reply to this post. Apple will not, and has never accepted, that it jsut doenst know how to provide a business class office productivity system

I hate to say this, but If you need something reliable, use excahge or Google. If you dont care if things occsionally get lost, dont work, casue duplciates, dont synchrpnize etc, use iCal, address book and mail

Just got an update to an invitation and here we go - since 2011 I have this problem, wow Apple!

So I checked the output with "Calendar -LogHTTPActivity" in the shell. I don't know if this has something to do with the CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation but it looks like it breaks when drawing an Image? Or is this not meant like a picture (signature or so)?

Since there is nothing Apple does the next step is to make a piece of software checking for those incoming updates in the mailbox and changing this to something Apple understands. Obviously there is a market for selling those bugfixes 😉.
