Recommended AirPrint printers?

I am looking for an airprint printer that will work both with my iPad(3) and also my MBP. I see many listed in various ads and sites, but I am looking for personal experience with them.

I would prefer a multi-function printer/scanner but that is not a requirement, merely a luxury.

Printing to DVD/CDs would also be a nice feature.

I do see some air printers that offer the above features, but it is not clear how friendly they are with iPads or MBPs.

Any info would be very helpful - and I am sure I am not alone in looking for this kind of information.

Thanks in advance.

Hi nerowolfe,

Consider this product from Lantronix:

Street price is $136 - not much different from an AirPrint printer, and you can use it with any printer on your network, wired or wireless, which means just about any printer ever built.

If you already have printers that you like, and you dislike the selection of disposable junk available today, it may be the best alternative.

FYI:

Printing to a CD or DVD is a hardware function of a printer. It requires a special slot or adapter in which to insert a printable DVD or CD into the printer, such as my aging Epson Stylus Photo R300. It has nothing to do with the computer.

I was writing about printing directly to a printable CD or DVD, not to print on paper labels that get affixed to a DVD, making the DVD thicker and sometimes problematical in some players.

I prefer the better HP color Laserjet printers because they give better text and output than the cheaper inkjet printers. Yeah, you pay more, but you get more in return.

I've got an HP Color LaserJet Pro CP1525nw, which simply prints on paper. Great for everyday printing from my ipad or iphone. I also recently got an HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw, which includes color scanning and color copying in addition to color printing. The scan function is easy to use using the Image Capture applicaiton on my iMac. Both use Wifi and can print from the iPad or iPhone.

I have an Epson RX 680 which I purchased solely for its ability to print on CDs and DVDs. I could not find anything else that would do that that was not a commercial version that was quite a bit more expensive. It does an adequate job, but I would love to find someting better. I am not that impressed with the printer generally. it does a terrible job on photos.

It does okay on printing black and whites and color documents, I would love to find something that works better at printing CDs and DVDs at a somewhat reasonable price.
