iPhoto email - "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. "

In iPhoto 11 (9.2.3), I cannot send emails through iPhoto as designed. I keep getting the error, "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later."

1. My internet connection is fine

2. I have entered my email account information correctly (and in multiple different accounts)

3. I have no firewall running

4. I can choose to send via Mac Mail (although I prefer to use iPhoto) and it works with no problem

From my Google searches, this seems to be a VERY common problem. However, I have yet to find anyone with a solution.

So I am going to "the source" here on the Apple forums. Does anyone know how to fix this obvious bug?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iPhoto 11 (9.2.3)

richsadams,

Good idea. It did let me copy and paste the individual captions, so that would have been a way. I'll remember that for next time. And I guarantee there will be a next time. I have found that if I import photos (from a camera, or CD, or whatever), if I try to compose a message with any of those photos, without first closing and reopening iPhoto, it will come up with this error, every time, without fail.

This most recent occurance was when I flagged a bumch of photos that were NOT new imports, but then tried to compose a message out of the Flagged Photos "smart folder". It acted the same as it does on new import photos. So, I am sure it has something to do with the database not being updated, and nothing at all to do with the Internet connection, or the operation of the email accounts themselves, since testing proves that both of those work independent of the issue in iPhoto, with no problem, even while iPhoto is saying that there is a problem with one or the other.

the steps I used to solve my gmail/iPhoto issue:

  1. delete the gmail account in iPhoto
  2. close iPhoto
  3. reopen iPhoto
  4. <revoke> the 2 step application-specific password for my PowerBook
  5. create a new application-specific passwords for my PowerBook
  6. use that same password for both my general laptop settings and iPhoto setting (e.g., create a new gmail account in iPhoto using that same password)

This has never been an issue for me - have been able to send photo's from iphoto using the share email option - until this morning. Have recently upgraded to Mavericks and also updated to the latest version of iphoto. This morning I got this "your email did not go through" message. I deleted my account from iphoto preferences, shut down iphoto and then re-added it. All worked perfectly after that.

Thanks richsadams, you are a godsend!

This issue has been annoying me for so long, since I had gotten used to emailing from iPhoto and then couldn't any more when this bug developed. Not unworkable, but it took more steps and was less elegant than doing it all within iPhoto.

I followed your instructions exactly for removing then adding back my one account. Though it is iCloud, I clicked "other" in the window where we get a choice of email services. Then in the next step where it asks for "description" I typed in iCloud. Not sure if that was necessary but it worked.

iPhoto email - "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. "
