iPhoto email - "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. "

In iPhoto 11 (9.2.3), I cannot send emails through iPhoto as designed. I keep getting the error, "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later."

1. My internet connection is fine

2. I have entered my email account information correctly (and in multiple different accounts)

3. I have no firewall running

4. I can choose to send via Mac Mail (although I prefer to use iPhoto) and it works with no problem

From my Google searches, this seems to be a VERY common problem. However, I have yet to find anyone with a solution.

So I am going to "the source" here on the Apple forums. Does anyone know how to fix this obvious bug?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iPhoto 11 (9.2.3)

Ok, here are the COMPLETE instructions for how to make this thing work again for a gmail account:

1. Delete the email account in iPhoto

2. Quit

3. Re-add the email account using the application specific password that you get from https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

For reference, the smtp outgoing is 'smtp.gmail.com' and the port it '587'. Your username is your full email address e.g. name@gmail.com and the password is the one generated by your gmail account if you are using two-step verification. You need to get this password fromhttps://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en).

Remember, If you are using two-step verification on your gmail account, you first need to get an app specific password from the following link:

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

It is THIS password you use to set-up your gmail account on iPhoto, not your regular gmail password.

If this works for you, please "like" it so others don't spend a lot of time trying to wade through all the remarks before finding something that works (like I did). I owe thanks to jameshavelock for putting me on the right track.

) I'd prefer not to simply work-around a marketed feature of this commercial software because it does not function.

It's not a workaround, it's another built-in option for the emailing of photos from iPhoto:

User uploaded file

Using Mail has the advantage of better access to your Contacts, a saved sent version and has layouts similar to iPhoto's in Mails Stationary option.

This issue have bugged me for a long time. This solved it for me.

After getting the "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply" error I started the Mail app (which I don't usually use) and in the mail menu opened preferences then selected accounts then in one of the accounts I went to the drop down menu beside Ootgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and selected edit SMTP server list. I then removed everything except my iCloud email for which I entered its password by going to the advanced tab.

Now I can send emails from iPhoto.

iPhoto email - "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. "
