My iPhone 4 doesn't show up under 'Devices'.

Hey Apple fanboys!

I am trying to transfer the photos from iPhone 4 to my Macbook Pro but I can't find the device under 'Devices'. I can see it in iTunes, however. I am running 10.6.1 so restart, re-install and all that jazz is tried and tested with failure. Anything beyond that I should try to see this as a USB device?

Try this

1.Go to Windows Device Manager Click Portable Devices >> Apple iPhone >> Uninstall

2. Unplug and plug your iPhone, now wait for windows to re recognize your iphone [ In Device Manager, you will see the new recognized Apple Iphone ]

3.Press F5 to refresh your windows explorer and your Apple iPhone will show up with a camera icon.

I had this same problem too. Fixed it by following the above steps.

As has already been posted:

It will only show up if there are photos in the Camera Roll. If you are sure you have photos in the Camera Roll launch Image Capture from your Mac's Applications folder.

Or if you have Windows use any photo management program.

If there ARE photos in your Camera Roll and your iPhone is not showing up as a digital camera try deleting and reinstalling iTunes.

Thanks Lawrence. I was talking about accessing it through Windows like a portable hard drive. I find that a much easier way to manually manage my photos and videos that way.

I have found a way that makes NO sense to me that I can now see it.

I deleted a few photos that were taking me OVER my internal storage capacity (according to my iTunes indicator) and then my iPhone appears as a portable device again.

Very strange.

So im not sure if you all have the same issue as i did... hopwever ill describe it and tell ya the fix ... if it works... AWESOME... if not .... not the same issue as i had...

i recently had to restore my iphone and after my iphone restored, i was good 🙂.... didnt need to hook it up to itunes for a few days cause i restored from a backup..... after a few days i wanted to add different music to my iphone 4.... so i hooked it up to my pc ** windows 8.1 64bit**, once i hooked it up to my computer i got a tap to choose what to do with this device msg in the top right corner and if i click it it only gave me import and view pictures options.... i looked all around the internet and i saw alot about drivers and such... so i removed EVERYTHING that had to do with apple from my computer i removed all drivers itunes the helper bonjour program everything and i restarted and reinstalled itunes which in turn reinstalled all other drivers and options.... once i did this i reconnected my iphone 4 to my computer and it connected to my itunes.... PROBLEM SOLVED FOR ME.... Good luck all 🙂
