I'm the same. Iphone 4, updated last week over wifi. No problems for 4 days then lost signal, the searching, then no sim installed. After a few hours its back on then its off again. Orange are sending me a new sim to see if this works, i'm guessing its the update. Cant believe its a hardware problem. Come on Apple... whats going on i need my phone working!

Hi!

I had the same problem with my 3gs. Tried everything from reset, restore, 3g on and off, restart. Nothing worked. After a week I decided to open my iphone. I removed the front with the touch and lcd. Then I disconnected and connected again connector 6,5 and 4. Reinstalled the front (youtube shows you how to do it).

After that I turned on my phone and.......boom shaka wow wow... everything back to normal. Full signal!

Dont know if that works for anyone but it worked on my phone.

Yes, I have the same problem (AT&T, iPhone 4, 5.1.1). After upgrading I have barely any signal at all in my house where signal was never a problem before. I'm constantly dropping calls now. My wife (same plan, same model) who hasn't upgraded to 5.1.1 has no problems so it's definitely a software problem in the update and not a change to AT&T's towers.

I am having the same problem.

3GS. Modem Firmware 05.16.05. Version 5.1.1 (9B206).

London UK Vodafone customer. Happened the day after I updated to 5.1.1

When i rang Vodafone after a couple of days of no service, the tech asked me to go to Settings -> Carrier -> Disable automatic. When I said I couldn't see any carriers coming up at all, he just said 'Oh... really?' In other words, 'I have no idea what's going on.'

He suggested I do a factory reset, but after reading many comments on this forum and many others, with people saying they have tried that to no avail, I don't see the point, as it's obviously more serious than that.

This guy said said he read on an Apply forum that a guy went to an Apple store and...

"They told him that iOS 5.1.1 corrupted his SIM and the internal antenna of the iPhone."

Really?

I wouldn't think that software could do that.

But if that's the case I want a replacement, and I want it soon.

Please Apple, respond to this (if they have, has anyone got a link please?)

At least let us know it's a known issue and you're working on it.

Is it possible to roll back to 5.1 somehow?? If so, how do you do that?

The frustrating thing for me is that I don't get any signal at home or at work, which is the two places I use the phone the most. If I go for a walk for 5 mins away from my work place, I will get intermittent 2-bar signal, which is usable. But as soon as I get into the office or at home, there is no signal. That's why I first thought it was vodafone mucking about with their towers. But after seeing all these posts with people having the EXACT same problem, there's no coincidence.

I am pasting this also. I am not going to be trying all of these things just yet, but thought it may help some others: http://thedesignspace.net/MT2archives/000753.html#.T71bVdxYvqI

For those that are having signal problems is to switch of your 3G. Then everything is ok.

I spoke to apple customer services. They did the usual with restore etc. no change. Apparently it's impossible for them to rollback to a previous firmware. They registered my issue and passed it up to their techies. I was recontacted again 2 days ago. They say it's a fault with the phone and are sending a full replacement out. So we'll see. Personally I think it's the software update

Boshein,

Please keep us informed if they do send you a new one.

Also, I have tried turning off my 3G, but it doesn't fix the problem.

None of the solutions given in this thread have worked for me.

Another annoying thing is that I occaisionally get slight signal, like 1 or 2 bars, but not on 3G. Then it goes away again. Only happens every so often.

OK, still no luck or seemingly announcement from Apple about this.

Going to book a 'Genius' appointment, but just to make a note that I performed a factory reset, as that's probably what Apple will attempt first. Although I'm not convinced it's a factory restore, as it 'restores' to 5.1.1. Anyone know how to restore to an older version?

First did a full backup in iTunes.

Then on iPhone, tried 'Settings -> General -> Reset -> All settings'

Upon restart, inserted SIM card, but still 'no service'.

Restored from backup using iTunes, still 'no service'.

Then did a Restore from iTunes, which took about 75 mins total.

Upon restart, inserted SIM card, but still 'no service'.

Restored from backup using iTunes, still 'no service'.

So pretty much tried everything I can find. And I'm not going to attempt to Hack the phone, because why should I have to? It's Apple's fault, as clearly many other people have the same problem.

If anyone has had any successes, please post, thanks.

Good luck with the Genius Bar. Went today and they stuck by the opinion that it is assumed hardware related and the fact that it occurred right after the OS upgrade was purely coincidental. When i brought up all the recent activity on the Apple Support Community regarding numerous related incidents I was told they hear that after every new release and they won't put any weight on these complaint issues unless they are specifically informed of a known bug from Apple.

If you have any better luck, would love to hear about it.

gsmx, thanks for the update.

You say 'if you have any better luck'. Does that mean they won't give you a replacement phone?

What was their resolution?

I just can't believe it's a coincidence. The fact that SO many people are on here sayin that as SOON as they updated to 5.1.1 they lost signal.

This is Madness (aka Sparta).

Yeah gotta book appointment. 4-day weekend here, so might wait til next week. Trusty NOKIA £10 phone saving the day at the moment!
