They attempted a reinstall and I had my SIM card tested with my phone carrier. When both of those didn't resolve it they told me it was certainly hardware related and since i was long since out of hardware warranty all they would be able to do was sell me a replacement 3GS phone for $169. Got told they had no way to know if i was telling the truth or if i had dropped it or exposed it to water.

I've discovered a lot of related complaints from the last couple weeks but have yet to see anybody with a decent resolution.

I'm from Malaysia and here are my findings since updating to iOS 5.1.1 and I am on latest build 9A208.

Tested with DiGi telco, can only work on 3G connection if I try Edge or turn off 3G then I'm dropped from the network.

Tested with Maxis or Celcom telcos, working fine.

Now DiGi telco is blaming my iPhone 4 has problems. Since Maxis or Celcom is working fine, I have no idea how to go about it. My guess is Modem Firmware 4.12.01 has problems.

iphone 3gs

after restoring to ios 5.1.1, i got the same problem.

i'm using celcom.

the signal bar is full, even on 3g network.

i'm able to connect to the internet, make and recieve sms....but i'm not able to make or recieve a call.

i really do believe that the latest apple ios update is the main cause of this problem.

I have already posted in relation to the saga so far. After trying everything and a replacement at the Southampton apple store and still having poor or no signal problems I recount acted Apple customer services and they passed my issues to their techies. The lady got back to me a few days later and said that it was an issue with my phone (in warranty). They sent me a brand new IPhone in a box. It had the firmware prior to 5.1.1. It works fine. Guess what I won't be upgrading to 5.1.1

If you want my humble opinion. There is nothing wrong with the phone. It's the firmware that is the issue. It's probably that enough people haven't reported the issue to apple, so they don't recognise the issue as a big one.

Thanks

Nigel

I upgraded my Iphone 4 to ios 5.1.1 yesterday after putting it off for long enough as my friend had upgraded and now is unable to use her phone due to the signal issues. I now have a signal issue!! This is definately due to the new firmware that I installed yesterday as I never had any issues before! Apple please correct me if I'm wrong but if all of these "firmware" related issues are phone issues then you have a problem with your phones. Think it would be better for everyone if there was another upgrade that ensured that everyone has a signal, I for one will be due my upgrade very soon with my network provider and can assure you that I won't be going for another iphone as there is a product fault with them.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4s constantly dropping the signal... We actually have two iPhone 4s here in the house, one's uodated to 5.1.1 and one not. After the update the signal issues started, the one that was not updated continues to receive full bars. Tried most of the ideas posted on resolving the issue without any success... then I put a case on the poor signalless iPhone and presto! It now gets signal again! ...is Antenna Gate back?

Another update from me.

I haven't yet gone to see Apple, as have been extremely busy. Just using a cheap Nokia for calls and non-iMessage texts.

I will certainly be taking this forum thread as a print-out to prove that others have the same issue. Although it sounds like, as it's out of warranty, they could just say there's no guarantee I haven't dropped it etc.

iOS 6 is out autumn/fall 2012 and looks like will work on 3GS, although it does say Limited support for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch (4th generation) so I will wait for this to come out and see if that fixes the bug.

Is there an official site/email address to report bugs??

I'm having the same problem. I updated my iPhone 4 to IOS 5.1.1 yesterday morning and immediately lost singal once the update was finished. I've wiped everything off my phone, reset and rebooted it TWICE and still nothing! I've turned it off and on about 10 times, reset it from the phone, turned on and off cellular data, location services, I've tried everything. It's very frustrating. I went to the phone shop (3 Ireland) and there was nothing they could do, they told me it was a problem with my phone not their signal (although I know that it was the update that did it.) I need a solution quickly as I can have no contact with anyone on it due to the fact my internet is through my carrier and I need signal urgently for Wednesday! I'm stuck with an over priced ipod and can't afford to buy a separate phone just to make calls/text.. Not impressed with Apple at all I'm afraid.

Looks like many are facing similar issues after updating to the IOS 5.1.1 and I’m one of them as well. Tried to restore my iPhone 3gs and now i'm unable to activate my iPhone. Changing the SIM apparently doesn't work, i'm using Maxis (Malaysia) and still no difference. Guess the programmers at Apple really screwed up big time. After reading lots of posts looks like these has been goin on quite some time now since May 2012 if I’m not mistaken, so what is Apple doing?? Any suggestions or fix?? Maybe its their strategy to screw all previous models of iPhone so that Apple fanatics will go for the new iphone5!!!! Really frustrating to know that Apple has yet to come up with a solution, do something Apple!!!!
