if someone can tell how a kext file can be unloaded manually without error messages, it would be great experience for me.

Sorry, I keep getting the same results as you after trying several things, including turning AirPort Off. About the only other thing I can think of is to boot into Safe Mode and see if that works, but I'm not in the mood to try it tonight.

unionpoletapes that was a great response, but also credit to MadMac for the sudo terminal commands for the kext replacement.

re the uniionpoletapes method. - i tried pretty much all your steps initially, before contacting Apple. none of them worked for me.

The no password method worked for about 3 minutes and then the sharing connection broke down again, so i dont think that is the fix, as you have said.

I have heard nothing from Apple since i sent them the files that they needed with thecapture data program, has anybody else heard a response from them that has contacted them and been through the capture data process?

I assume that someone there, at least, is working on this issue. There have been a few experiencing issues, from what it seems.

Thanks for running and documenting these scenarios. Initlally, turning wi-fi WEP security to a lesser strength (ie., 40bit) worked, but only for a few minutes. Then I turned it off, but like umma08, it only worked for a few minutes as well. Now nothing works. I'm curious, are the other sharing functions working for folks (.g., screen sharing, file sharing) or is it just Internet sharing? None of the three I mentioned are working for me.

I am on the phone with Apple Care. I am trying to get them to understand that the 10.7.4 update broke our routers. I am getting as self-assigned ip.

Just got off the phone with the Senior Advisor in the networking/wifi tech services, who apparently has heard from several people already about this issue. He escalated the issue to the engineers earlier today and will add my name to the ticket and said he should have an answer by Wednesday about this. (I hope they have a fix for this by Wednesday.) I also told him that there is a 7 page thread about this on the Apple Support Forums, i.e., this very thread.

Bottom line, at this point is: they know there is a problem, they know pretty much that the 10.7.4 update is the issue, and I am sure they will address it.

I experienced this 10.73 and 10.74 update and both caused the wireless internet connection lost

on my iBookAir 2011. Tried zillion ways to solve the issue, but got tired of it.

Finally, I decided to downgarde to OX10.72 which is fine.

It's been quite a long time, since this problem hopped up which in Febuary, but apple seems

not wanted to fix the issue right away..

Now,, I decided to wait until apple decided to fix this strange problem.

However, interesting point,,, other iMac 24in 2008 is also in the wirelsss problem.. now I am using

with the Ethernet cable connecting router. The system responce gets slower compaire to

the older OS...

Other models running 10.74 are the the iBook 2008 and also iBookPro 2010.

Interesting enough... these are FINE and didn't cause any wirless problem updating 10.74

Any idea? Why the new iBook Air gets problem updating to 10.73 or 10.74...?

yes, i can confirm that this file:

when implemented using this drag and drop software

Kext Utility

works to get Internet Sharing up and running again.

It is not the best solution by a long way (especially considering that the utility comes from a spurious Russian source), but what else can we do?

As it seems Apple have their fingers up in places that hinder their ability to solve update related issues.

Thankyou to those that posted the lnks/files/utilities and to those that implemented them initially to check the validity of the methods.

Apple engineers are clearly experiencing the same problems we are (including at home), and are likely working on the fix which takes time to qualify before release. The phone support folks work from scripts and are often the last to know, and can't say much without authorization and script approval, though we hear of exceptions. But it's hard to be patient!
