I disapppeared from this thread because I resolved the problem by using a non-Lion, non-updated Mac to run my internet off of. Four days, no incidents. I am hoping they will resolve this soon, though, as it's one more machine plugged and running 24/7, which is not cool.

This laxness in resolving this seems to be a new thing at Apple, in the past they'd pick up on an update issue just as fast as you would. Perhaps they are too busy with the promised Mountain Lion to spend much time rushing to fix this. I doubt people doing internet Sharing from their machines are a majority. I doubt the majority of people even know they can do that.

I live in a city: I definitely don't want to stop using a password as a solution.

I would think that the people on this thread are the few that use internet sharing! It seems like it couldn't possibly be working for anyone after the update. But even it's a minority, it is still a valuable feature that should be at the top of Apple's priority. A computer without internet is basically useless.

And I tried using no password before it was suggested on this thread (found the idea elsewhere) and that made no difference as several others have said. It's gonna take something from Apple's end because I think all the possible solutions have been explored. If the kext thing works, that's great, but I'm not willing to try it. Apple fix!!

It is very much looking like a problem with at least mid-2011 iMacs, which is what I have at home. My early-2008 iMac at work, which I also updated to 10.7.4 is having no problems with sharing. Apple is aware of the problem (see my earlier post), but people need to call Apple Care or Support or email Support so they can get an idea of how widespread the problem is.

to confirm with Myra J - yeah, my iMac that is troubled with this problem is indeed mid 2011.

details:

27-inch, Mid 2011

Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

did an update to 10.7.4 on a Mid 2010 iMac today at work - internet sharing is still intact.

i wonder if it is simply a hardware problem with Mid 2011 iMac (or if internet provider is an issue) - anyone else wish to chime in with one of the two of the following?

  • "Yes, the computer which is no longer sharing internet after the update to 10.7.4 is a Mid 2011 iMac."
  • "No, the computer which is no longer sharing internet after the update to 10.7.4 is not a Mid 2011 iMac. It is a _____ ."
