no, i have not got into the habit of backing up this computer yet - i have only had it 4 months. I am not sure that i should be making contingency plans within the first year of having a cimputer let alone the first half year. How much do these things cost?

I also do not want to spend half a day restoring old settings and reinstalling MAC OSX. They should not have released an update that had issues, either that or they should release a fix quick fast that sorts out the problems.

I just activated Internet sharing on a 09 MBP running 10.7.4, sharing to a Win 7 workstation and a Mac Mini works fine so you need to look at what is going on in your environment that is stopping it.

As for backup, not having one puts you at serious risk of data loss, in a lab that may not be a wise choice, in fact it is not a wise choice under any circumstances, things go wrong, often without informing you.

I have an iMac 27" mid 2011, and I had internet sharing working perfectly with the 10.7.3. The problem started when I have updated to the 10.7.4, other devices either can or cannot connect to the created network, and if they can connect the internet stops after hours or seconds(right now!).

I have phoned Apple(US) and spoke with many levels of technical support and after many hours they said that I have to call the manufacturer of my Router!

First: I have approximately four to six routers plugged into each other and they are well barried into the gorund, do I have to test them all?! And do I have to call all the different manufacturers?

Second: I can say that I'm 80% sure that I had this problem exactly the moment I have restarted my Mac after the 10.7.4 update.

Note: I have MacBook Air 13" mid 2011 updated to the 10.7.4, and internet sharing is working without any problems!(using the same ethernet cable that was plugged into the iMac).

Thank You!

The link to the older extension and Kext Utility did not solve the problem for me. I have a Mid 2011 iMac with OS 10.7.4, Build 11E53. The internet sharing is still really slow, practically unusable. For comparison, we can get a faster internet connection on our old Powermac G5 using internet sharing in OS 10.4.

Can someone point out how to revert to OS 10.7.3 without having to retreive it from a backup?

Thanks.

June

There is no practical method without restoring from a backup.

You say you are only 80% sure this problem arose after the restart to 10.7.4...

..I am 100% sure this caused the problem. My internet sharing worked fine for the last 9 months. Then after the restart of 10.7.4, bam, it stops working.

I get the same issues other have had: if I turn sharing off and on again it works for a few seconds but then its dead. I hope this issue is resolved fast. My iPhone is now practically useless when I am at home.

Yes, I'm 100% sure this is the 10.7.4 update also.

If you do communicate with Apple Care or Support, don't let them get away with telling you that the problem is not due to the update. Tell them you want them to "escalate this issue" to the engineers and insist that it is the update that is causing this. Also, point them to this thread. This is ridiculous.

June Chan, I'm sorry to say I am in the same boat you are in, except I was backing up and my back up drive crashed and burned I do not know when. So I don't have a backup to restore to either.

Umma, I tried this solution and just to confirm, it worked for me.

The Internet Sharing and the wifi seems to be fixed now.

Thanks to itwasntme, madmacs, umma, unionpoletapes and all those posted helpful stuff over here.

"Yes, the computer which is no longer sharing internet after the update to 10.7.4 is a Mid 2011 iMac."

yes, i can confirm that this file:

link

when implemented using this drag and drop software

Kext Utility

works to get Internet Sharing up and running again.

so here is da answer 😀

1. go to finder>(computer name)>macintosh HD>library>preferences

2. copy the entire systemconfiguration folder and systemconfiguration.old folder to your desktop

3. restart mac and device which you share intenet to

then you have internet that is about 3x slower than the da 10.7.3 intenet sharing, but works 🙂

then, just wait for apple to release da 10.7.4 fixed 😠

please use da steps! 😎

"Yes, the computer which is no longer sharing internet after the update to 10.7.4 is a Mid 2011 iMac." WINS!

So yes, it's a Mid 2011 thing.

Bummer for the people with new computers!

Based on the number of people on this thread (not that many?!?!), my kind-of-informed guess would bring me to believe that another factor must be in play...something connected to internet provider/router...though I really have no idea.

If only there was a thread titled "10.7.4 - NO Issues with sharing Internet Connection!" Oh well...

Respect to the KEXTERS - nice. gonna play it out here, though, especially since there's a portable wifi router in the house. missing that speedy wifi connection a bit, though.

Funny thing about this update: it fixed internet sharing (via WiFi) for a PPPoE connected machine at work while breaking it for my machine at home.

No, I don't think so - it broke the inter-computer file and screen sharing too, which have nothing to do with the router. Even the internet sharing problem is not to do with the router since the computer that is connected to the router continues to work fine online. The issue is with that computer sharing anything over its own-generated wi-fi network.

I think this is why many people won't have noticed the issue - the standard configuration is one or more computers/devices all *independently* connected to a wireless router.
