keyApplicationTitle keyWarningOptimalInfo keyOKButton

Since upgrading to 10.7.4, I get a message on my screen with each system boot stating: keyApplicationTitle keyWarningOptimalInfo, and a button I must push that says: keyOKButton -- what is this and how can I get rid of it?

Please help. I do not want to have to deal with a button each time my system starts. THANKS!

An absolute, 100% educated guess here, but could that mysterious dialog box be associated with the Mac Pro Memory Slot Utility? The layout of the dialog, the "keyWarningOptimalInfo" placeholder (representing Optimal Memory Configuration) and the fact it only displays on Mac Pro systems is forcing me to lean in this direction.

The Memory Slot Utility is also known to be called on startup as it automatically appears when an incorrect memory configuration is detected. It is possible that it's throwing a false positive.

Here's an example of the Memory Slot Utility reporting an optimal memory configuration for comparison.

I'm currently installing Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 and will havd a dig around to see what I can find after that.

Small update, but I can confirm the presence of keyApplicationTitle, keyWarningOptimalInfo and keyOKButton in the localisation files for the Mac Pro Memory Slot Utility, located in /System/Library/CoreServices/Memory Slot Utility.app.

Why it's appearing with the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 update is anyones guess and likely to be a bug in the operating system, but it does shed some light on where the mysterious message is originating from and hopefully will provide some clues on how to trace and fix it. As I don't have a Mac Pro myself, I can not test any of my theories, but hopefully this will be of use to someone.

That is it a help...I just made a zip(same place in case I add ram ) so it wont run on start up, trashed the app and rebooted ... solved for now.

I can report that after upgrading my memory I was getting a constant dialog box from the memory slot utility. The folks at OWC (Other World Computing) told me to move the memory slot utility off my main drive which "fixed" that issue. Perhaps this keyApplicationTitle message is a result of my Mac Pro looking to find my memory slot utility and not locating it? I can move it back into place, but will then be substituting one unwanted startup warning for another.

I may be dense, but I did not understand danfronmadrid's zip fix. If the removal of the memory slot utility fixes the keyApplicationTitle issue, why do I still have it? Why did he have to zip the utility rather than just drag it to another drive for safe keeping?

UPDATE: I just moved the memory slot utility back onto my Mac Pro and the keyApplicationTitle startup warning is still there. However, my computer no longer reports a false memory problem. I'll run the 10.7.4 combo update one more time with the memory slot utility in place.

Error dialog box FIXED by moving Memory Slot Utility to another folder. On reboot, the dialog box no longer appears.

Like others, I've gone through variations of this problem with Memory Slot Utility in the past:

(1) months ago I added 8GB RAM (from Apple!) to preinstalled 8GB RAM (from Apple!), positioned in proper slots, and had Memory Slot Utility report new memory was configured correctly on EVERY boot; once was fine to inform me, but every boot?

(2) as a last resort, I moved Memory Slot Utility from HD->System->Library->CoreServices to a newly created folder, and the problem went away.

To my surprise, I found with OS X 10.7.4 upgrade, Memory Slot Utility had returned from the dead, this time giving not the old "All is going well" message but the one we've all been reporting. After moving the new Memory Slot Utility to a different folder, the problem is solved.

Not happy now, and never was, with Memory Slot Utility.

But you've all been a help. Thanks.

I can confirm this [removal of memory slot utility] fixes the false error message on startup after the 10.7.4 upgrade.

I too got a message on each boot from the MSU after a memory upgrade a year ago and had deleted that software. I was not aware it was located inside the HD->System->Library->CoreServices location (thanks VicB01) so was unaware that 10.7.4 had restored the software.

So MSU now has two issues?? Apple needs to look at this code. I have trashed it for now.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I completely agree. DTDunn and I (see above) speculated it might be related to our booting from a SSD. However I don't get the problem on my MBP with 10.7.4, booting also from a SSD. So we're mystified as well. The only kludge I've found is to move Memory Slot Utility to a different folder. Not my preference, but it eliminates the constant dialog box on every single boot (or reboot). An Apple rep phoned me to record the issue, so somewhere Apple should be aware of it.
