apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com

No matter how or what I do to configue Yahoo mail in ipad mail setup I get this error saying "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "incoming mail server" field. Yet I download the yahoo mail app and yahoo mail works fine. Just does not work with and of the settings in the NEW IPAD mail, contacts, calendars setup. I have found this seems to be an issue posted in many forums. Any Ideas..?

More help for those with the same issue as mine. I have not yet heard back from Apple yet, but have found more information reguarding my issue. My ipad is fixed and currently working, "mostly" on my wifes ipod...(except gmail) I have gmail working on the ipod using exchange for now until Apple gets back to me. Please read the email message I sent to Apple Engineering this morning below.

After looking into this more over the weekend. I am proud to say I may have figured out the problem and wish to share this with you and apple engineering. I got my iPad working, but still can not get my wife's iPod touch gen4 to work. Let me explain what I believe the issue is and maybe you or apple engineering can tell the rest of the world how to troubleshoot this.

You see, we were at home on the wifi local network setup through linksys router wrt54gs, and connected from there to the Internet with Verizon dsl. All the mail settings were set up on this LAN and all worked fine until I installed the iTunes apple iPad update to 5.1.1 and then this message error came up that this case number reflects.

I do not get cell service at my home.. And do have an account with AT&T for data plan. So this morning when we went to town and I had cell service I was able to setup all the email accounts and when I returned home now on the LAN..they seem to be working. I still need to verify this with all accounts, but looks like to me the somehow the LAN will not except the settings to be updated once the 5.1.1 is installed. As I said, my wife's iPod still has the issue and I tried setting it up on several different wifi hot spots, but the same results with the hot spots will not except the email settings with the 5.1.1 software. I will be working on my LAN and dsl today to see if I can offer apple any more information regarding this ticket.

I did disable all firewalls and tried many settings in the DSL and Linksys, but the ipod touch Gmail now only says the username or password are incorrect. I have found in the DSL settings it already has information setup for Yahoo, but nothing setup for Gmail.

Anyone with more information please reply...as you can see many have been having issues out there and Lets hope this helps. Or, maybe you can help me.

Thanks

If apple finds root cause I will post it...

So in my case... This is the answer. With the firewall settings on my Verizon Dsl set to medium, mail will not work. Setting the firewall to medium only allows mail to come in and go out certain ports. Apple server will not except mail to or from those particular port settings. You have to use port forwarding to allow mail with the port settings to make the apple server happy. A test....go to safari and open your mail...send mail and it works just fine. Download the yahoo or gmail app and they work just fine....but the apple iPad mail setting that go thru their server will not. Just in my case I guess....but anyone who is trying to get their mail thru a wifi that does not have the correct port forward configuration will not work. But you can still get to your mail with the apps or browser. It's just not as secure as going thru the apple server. Anyway, this is what my issue was. Gl

Good luck with that....here's the scoop I got from them both.....last year yahoo got hit with a very bad virus...so apple clenched down on what they allow from email to pass thru their server... "The only way they can protect things on their end as far as customer complaints" So, the apple server is not going to allow traffic that is normal traffic anywhere else...it will not excepted email to or from certain ports from your router or ISP...and this in my case only happens on wifi with a firewall...it does not happen if I get mail from a cell tower...that's because apple is already protected knowing the prone number must be legit...hope this helps..

So in a nut shell...in my case...Verizon says its apples fault...google says its apples fault, yahoo says its apples fault...and apple says their doing everything they can to protect their equipment and it's everybody else's fault...none of them are going to give in, but apple will protect these viruses from getting in unless YOU click and allow them...the experts at all sites have already had all the customer complaint on this issue and none are going to budge....why,,,cause they have a ton of complaints to deal with where the virus got thru....glad I did not get one...but here again...if you only have this issue on a wifi, and your browser can get and send mail...it's the apple server trying to protect you....you can change the ports on your wifi to make it works at home...but your not going to make it work at some mall wifi hot spot....good luck to all...I hope you GET what you want or asked for...Be careful...are you just trying to make it work because they are blocking the "junk" you don't want anyway....try to connect to your mail with google, if you can get there with a web browser and send and recieve mail there...you know that the issue is the apple server, and they only way to fix that is with port forwarding....Thanks for reading my sarcastic message..lol

I got the same message from all parties as well. In my case, I get the problem using Verizon 3G or WiFi, either one. My problem is NOT WiFi, but Apple. The Apple rep told me that any fixes would come out in the next update. So far this week my Yahoo is working, my only advice for all of you is that it's not YOU or your account, its Apple, and you simply need to call and complain as I did. Maybe engineering will get the hint.

Thanks kingkooldaddy....that all I should have said...I am computer savey enough to figure it out and get mine working wifi or 4g...with my firewall set on high....but the everyday user is not going to be able to do this. It is apple,,,they put too much on protecting their stuff so they get less customer complaints for some stupid virus...but they need to get ALL the complaints they can before engineering is going to do anything about this.

So bottom line for those reading this....call apple and complain....Maybe the next update will be better, but for me I'm never updating again until I see how many post there are....still wish I could go back to the old version and don't even know why I excepted their update since I had no problems with the older version...lol

on father's day, my son bought new ipad . I tried to set yahoo email account and it caused so many problems as you people mentioned above. this also made my iphone4 not working with yahoo email account. I took to APPLE store and one senior staff spent 1 1/2 hour and could not fix.

next day, I called apple. one guy was very patient and he went over and did not do anything special, he told me

to add yahoo email account, nothing special or fancy. and miracle happened, both my ipad and iphone 4 are

working with yahoo email account. Thank God.

I think somebody in yahoo or Apple turned on the network connection.......

i have 3 yahoo accounts. i just experienced an issue with only ONE account. the Said account failed to retrieve emails because the "password was incorrect" So, I changed it in SETTINGS and this appeared: "user name or password for apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com is incorrect" appear.

i rebooted, deleted the account, changed my email, itunes, apple id passwords (on my laptop) and re-added the account. no change. i finally backed my iphone up on itunes and then restored it to factory settings. it FINALLY works. things are back to normal on my iphone (will do the same for the ipad in a bit) so clearly, it is NOT a yahoo issue.

back-up your device

restore

sync

it takes time but at least it worked with me. good luck!

I reset my iPad by holding the power button and hold button til the apple logo comes up, thus resetting my iPad. And re-added my yahoo account and it now works.

I had this problem - none of my email accounts would connect after updating to iOS 6. I tried deleting the accounts, then re-adding them, but I got errors verifying the accounts after re-creating them.

I read in another post (and this one) that some people were claiming there was a problem re-entering the email accounts when connected via WiFi. So I gave it try. I disabled WiFi, re-added all my emaIl accounts succesfully when connected via the cell network.

After setting everything up, I was able to turn back on WiFi, and all email accounts are working fine. I can't begin to explain why they wouldn't initially work over WiFi. Internet access was working fine on the device over WiFi, just not the e-mail. Very Strange... seems like if it were an issue with port blocking in a firewall, I'd still have the problem over WiFi...

I had the same problem while setting up my ipad and iphone and could not get any incoming emails.

Try this: go to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars and delete your email account. Go back and set up a new account by selecting Yahoo! Skip over entering your name by leaving it blank, then enter your email address and password then select set up. That worked for me.

Hi Everyone,

These notes are related to using Yahoo IMAP with OSX Mail, but they may be germaine to the iPad and iPhone problems. Since the iOS tries to assume it knows the defaults for Yahoo, I'm wondering if the problem has to do with regular "Yahoo Mail" versus "Yahoo Mail Plus" -- the server settings you are supposed to use are actually different.... Here are my noes on the OSX Mail situation:

--------------------

I've had this problem on & off with OSX Mail set up for POP access. Recently, I set up OSX Mail under Lion on another Mac for IMAP access, and the password challenge thing went insane. Totally couldn't figure it out.

Somewhere in a thread, someone commented about SMTP fails being at the root cause. So, I decided to add in the Yahoo! Mail Plus SMTP, which is different form the standard SMTP.

If you are having the password challenge problem AND you are Plus user (and maybe even if you are not?) try adding in this additional SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com and point your Yahoo account to this server in the Advanced settings.

It's been over 24 hours now, and no password challenge....

-------------------

Hope this is helpful!
