apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com

No matter how or what I do to configue Yahoo mail in ipad mail setup I get this error saying "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "incoming mail server" field. Yet I download the yahoo mail app and yahoo mail works fine. Just does not work with and of the settings in the NEW IPAD mail, contacts, calendars setup. I have found this seems to be an issue posted in many forums. Any Ideas..?

More help for those with the same issue as mine. I have not yet heard back from Apple yet, but have found more information reguarding my issue. My ipad is fixed and currently working, "mostly" on my wifes ipod...(except gmail) I have gmail working on the ipod using exchange for now until Apple gets back to me. Please read the email message I sent to Apple Engineering this morning below.

After looking into this more over the weekend. I am proud to say I may have figured out the problem and wish to share this with you and apple engineering. I got my iPad working, but still can not get my wife's iPod touch gen4 to work. Let me explain what I believe the issue is and maybe you or apple engineering can tell the rest of the world how to troubleshoot this.

You see, we were at home on the wifi local network setup through linksys router wrt54gs, and connected from there to the Internet with Verizon dsl. All the mail settings were set up on this LAN and all worked fine until I installed the iTunes apple iPad update to 5.1.1 and then this message error came up that this case number reflects.

I do not get cell service at my home.. And do have an account with AT&T for data plan. So this morning when we went to town and I had cell service I was able to setup all the email accounts and when I returned home now on the LAN..they seem to be working. I still need to verify this with all accounts, but looks like to me the somehow the LAN will not except the settings to be updated once the 5.1.1 is installed. As I said, my wife's iPod still has the issue and I tried setting it up on several different wifi hot spots, but the same results with the hot spots will not except the email settings with the 5.1.1 software. I will be working on my LAN and dsl today to see if I can offer apple any more information regarding this ticket.

I did disable all firewalls and tried many settings in the DSL and Linksys, but the ipod touch Gmail now only says the username or password are incorrect. I have found in the DSL settings it already has information setup for Yahoo, but nothing setup for Gmail.

Anyone with more information please reply...as you can see many have been having issues out there and Lets hope this helps. Or, maybe you can help me.

Thanks

If apple finds root cause I will post it...

Hello Jamesfilms,

I already follow your instruction, but nothing changed in my yahoomail on iphone5. I noticed that the password there are different (the number of characters) from the real one. I have been facing this problems since i connect to a wifi in other country during holiday. Until now, i already change the password, delete account and re- add it again for almost 10 times, but nothing changed.

Do you have any other suggestion for my problems? Thanks a lot in advance..

This is something definitely related to some home wifi setting. After I reset my iPad, it gave me the message "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding while configuring yahoo and gmail accounts. Then seeing one of the posts, I connected the iPad to my mobile phones 3G network and voila, both the accounts got set up. I have still to see if they work properly after I again shift to home wifi, which is a landline modem connected to apple time machine wifi router. It worked till the time I was on 3G. The moment I connected to the home wifi, it stopped working and does not work even after reconnecting to the 3G network.

So this is something related to wifi settings. As mentioned above setting your security settings on your router to minimum will work but that leaves you open to attacks. What worked for me was opening the standard SMTP, IMAP and POP ports then adding a new rule for port 993 and 587. Add the port forwarding rule for 993 and 587 with port triggering enabled. Port triggering will only let traffic through if it was initiated from your internal network. This way you don't need to completely open your network and you can get yahoo mail on your iPad client.

If you still have problems a way you can figure out what is getting blocked is logging into your router, clear your security log then attempt to connect with your device. Refresh the security log and you should see what the source origniation IP and port and destination ip and port. Add the blocked port to your port fowarding rules and try again.

Hope this helps.

Hello every one having this issue,

in the past three days I've tried every possible suggestion to fix this issue, but it didn't work because these fixes are outdated.

The problem started 3 days ago most likley when yahoo adapted the secure (SSL) connection, or at least that's what I had, anyway, the only thing got it to work was CHANGING YOUR EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS and this is how it can be done:-

Most of the internet servises provided to residentials and businesses are "Dynamic IP" which means every time you restart your "INTERNET ROUTER" (the one comes from the internet company) it will use different external ip address. all you have to do is to disconnect the power from the device for 10-15 minutes then re-connect it.

1- go to your iphone Settengs>>Mail, Contact, Calender>>select your yahoo account>> Delete Account.

2- disconnect the power from your Internet router for 15 min then re-connect it.

3- add your yahoo account again.

4- enjoy

I experienced this problem too. For some reason, the automatic configuration for the iPhone's Yahoo settings seem to be the culprit. So what I did was, add my yahoo account settings manually. To do this do the following:

If don't want to delete any settings with your current yahoo config, disable it for now:

Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > YourYahooAccount > (Switch OFF Mail button)

Configure your yahoo mail manually:

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  2. Scroll Down then select / tap Add Account
  3. Tap "Other" (Do not use the Yahoo! option)
  4. Set the incoming mail server:
    Hostname: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    User Name: youryahoomail@yahoo.com
    Password: yourPassword
  5. Set the outgoing mail server:
    Hostname: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    User Name: youryahoomail@yahoo.com
    Password: yourPassword
  6. Save the setting by tapping "Save / Done / Next" on the top right screen.
  7. Yahoo will verify your settings.
  8. And your done. 🙂

I don't know if it'll work for you. But it worked for me. 😀

when you keep accessing you yahoo account and yahoo will send an email to you like this

you click the link app-specific password it will ask you where do you want to log in

Such as my iPhone

when you fill the space a password will appear 15 letters

Then you go in to your iPhone click to add yahoo account you put your user name and put this 15 letter password will accept the yahoo account and ready to use

first you have to access through PC to access your yahoo email to get the password

For your security, we wanted to confirm whether you recently tried to sign in to your Yahoo account (#########) from an application on Thu, Jul 10, 2014 3:07 AM EDT from United States.

Was this you? If so, you need to set up an app-specific password to verify the application and grant access to your account.
If you don’t recognize this sign in attempt, you can help keep your account safe by changing your password and updating your account password reset information:

  • Step 1: Login to your Yahoo Mail Account from a desktop computer: http://mail.yahoo.com
  • Step 2: After you have logged in find the gear icon located in the top right corner. Click that and select Account Info
  • Step 3: Find the section "Sign-In and Security" here you will click the link named "Setup your second sign-in verification" at the time of this writing it was the very last link/option at the bottom of this section.
  • Step 4: Now find the heading App Passwords and click the link "generate app password."
  • Step 5: You will be prompted to fill in your desired name eg "iPhone Mail Access," now click the generate password button and a password will be generated and displayed on your screen. Write this down or keep it on your screen -- proceed to next step
  • Step 6: Go to your iPhone's mail settings Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select Add Account then select YAHOO!
