iPhone/iTunes Wifi sync doesn't work

Hi guys,

I don't even have hope to solve this problem anymore but I guess I should post this anyway and show apple the crap software they're giving us.

I'm on Lion 10.7.4 (iTunes 10.6.1) and, after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1, my Wifi sync with iTunes stopped working. Out of nowhere. Looking for an answer I started digging on apple foruns and found out there are dozens of threads discussing the problem and literally hundreds of possible solutions. I've tried the following:

- Restart iTunes and iPhone (full power cycle).

- Check the "Sync over Wifi" option on iTunes when iPhone is connected using cable

- Uncheck the "Block iPhone, iPod and iPad from automatically sync" on iTunes > preferences > devices.

- Restart Router

- Reinstalling iTunes

- Restore iPhone

- Move to trash "com.apple.iTunes" and "MobileDevices.framework" files. Restart Mac after.

- Make Airport on Mac and iPhone forget the saved networks and reconfig them

- Open ports on router 123 (all), 3689 (TCP) and 5353 (UDP)

- Disable and enable uPnP on router

- Install Remote app

- Use "Release Liase" option on iPhone under Settings > General > Network > Wifi > Blue Arrow

NONE solved it. I gave up. Apple *****.

Interesting behaviours:

- Remote app doesn't work at all. I can't use it under Home Sharing or that code thing. My phone and Mac simple can't see each other anymore.

- iPhone conects fine using cable. Everything is working and, when I pull out the cable, iPhone vanish from the list. Even with the Wifi option enabled.

So, if any of you can solve it, you will have a place in heaven. And in Apple developing team, probably.

Thank you!

Hi folks...

I just got itunes removed (yes, I did it!) and reinstalled in my macbook...

Got my iphone connected with cable and synchronize it... checked wi-fi sync box... bla bla bla...

Got disconnected and tried to sync wirelessly...

Result: GRAYED !

There's no hope left... I'm going to jump in front of a train... Apple's fault... 😁

My next (and last) step is to downgrade itunes from 10.6.1 to 10.5.1... I'll post the result here...

Hi folks

Looks like you did not mention small thing here - Apple required active Wi-Fi And Internet connection to switch on Wi-Fi sync. All effects above take place in cases when your Wi-Fi network disconnected from Internet (isolated). Try to check it. And when you connect your Wi-Fi to I-net (if so) you need to wait 5-10 minutes to let Apple devices chance to check you I-net connection.

In more complicated case, if you have something like a hardware firewall or something like that, you can be able to surf I-net, but Apple devices can't communicate with external servers - Wi-Fi sync will not work again.

Hope, it helps.

i dont think it has something to do with internet connection. i didnt change any of my network and internet setting. nor i have firewall instaled.

itunes can't "see" my iphone 4 and ipad 1st gen thru wifi sync after 5.1.1 upgrade.

funny thing that itunes can sync through wifi to my iPad 3. wifi sync setting stayed grayed (inc. ipad 3), but somehow it can sync over wifi.

again, i didnt change any of those setting on either iphone and my 1st gen iPad. and since iTunes hasn't been updated for quite some time (10.6.1) i guess the problem lies with the iOS.

hope they fix it fast.. kinda annoying when you're used to have wireless sync, then have to go back into cable mode 😀

I personally have an issues with the Wifi Sync feature. I can only get it to work when I plug my iPhone 5 or iPod Touch in with the cord to the PC, then uncheck Wifi Sync and hit apply, then re-check it, and hit apply again. Then when I unplug the iPhone 5 or iPod Touch it works. But once I close iTunes and open it again later that day or another day it doesn't pick it up. I have to go through that process all over again. I used to be able to simply open iTunes and it would show. It's a pain.
