Read the questions others have.
Give helpful information in response.
The OP (original poster) will decide who gives "correct" or "helpful" information.
Do not ask for points ... the OP is the one who decides who gets point, not you.
Another thought ... you cannot award points to youself in a thread you started, though many will try. Some will mark their own answer "correct" simply because the correct asnwer has been received and they want the community to know that no more help is needed.
Answer questions and hope the asker gives you points.

Thanks, I needed this too!
I'd just like to say that it's stunning to me that your user name was available.
Maybe we are all just to egocentric to have chosen it. 😝
It's a numbers game, so answer every post. The more posts you answer the better your chances of getting points. You don't need to be right, you just need to keep posting.
So you think it's a good idea to put out massive numbers of answers that may or may not be correct? I'm just guessing, but I think that goes against the Terms of Use which state -
"Test your answer. When possible, make sure your Submission works on your own computer before you post it."
A few sour grapes? Maybe if you tried focusing on quality posts that give the right answers and solved the OP's question, you might get more points than just throwing a bunch of crap out and hoping some of it sticks. Which is what it sounds like you are recommending.

No, I don't think it's a good idea, it's merely been my observation that it's a standard practice of some of those to whom the accumulation of points appears to be an overriding motivation.

Sour grapes? No. Tounge in cheek? Yes. Care about points? No.
Who's ROFLing now?
Then you should have explained how that pattern does not help but confuses.
I choose to not answer questions about iOS because I know little or nothing about it. I will answer whether or not "hammer" is covered by the standard 1-year warranty.

Sorry about that, levity rarely goes over well in this forum but I just can't resist an opportunity like this.
My tongue-in-cheek point was in reference to the handful of members who post far too much, to the point of wrecking too many threads. The point system is a double-edged sword. It is intended to motivate people to stay with the forums, but it also encourages too much bad behavior from some of those who are obsessed with such ego strokes.
Few forums have such a point system, and I wish they would do away with it here, but I guess too many members are too emotionally invested in it for that to happen.

Sorry, didn't see it there. ;-)
I see too many people following this course of action and it does nothing but add static to the discussion and when it looked like that's what you were advocated, I felt the need to address it before someone took it seriously.
To level up, you answer peoples' questions. If they found it helpful, you get 5 pts. If you solved the problem, you get 10 pts. It's plain and simple, but just posting random things trying to get points probably won't help you. Hope I helped
