iOS 5.1.1 Software Update - Problems

Further to the below update, I have been unable to
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1521

  1. Open some already downloaded Apps such as Free Music

  2. Having issues opening Safari (Browser) and opening a Google Search, but works intermittently

  3. App store issues, where any app updates freezes and cancels

  4. Connectivity issues, again intermittent.

These issues have been evident since the new Apple 5.1.1 iOS update.

Was wondering if anyone had any Tips to overcome this or whether Apple iOS planned to release another update to fix the items that need fixing on the iPhone 4S.

P.S - Does anyone know the new way of hiding the bookstand as since the prior 5.1 release I am unable to prize the Bookstand in a folder on its own, so again tips and workarounds welcome.

Thankyou in advance

Just made the mistake of updating both my phone and my wife's. We both have iphone4. I already had the ios5 update with no problems, my wife's phone had never been updated since we bought them a year and a half ago. I had been impressed with these iphone's, I've even talked them up against the android phones out there, saying that obviously iphones are the best product out there.

Imagine my surprise when I finally had the time to update both phones and find out how fuct up they are. I should have checked all these comments here first before making the big mistake of updating. But I always had confidence that I had the superior product as it has never failed me before.

I haven't had time to notice all the problems that everyone else has had in the comments listed above, however, right from the beginning our contact lists are completely screwed up. In contacts where I had emails, multiple phone numbers and fax numbers, notes etc., these contacts are now all separated, some I have no idea where they came from. That is really helpful considering all my business contacts are now in the wind. I can see myself loosing a lot of money just from that *** up alone.

The worst part is that if we start experiencing the issues listed above with the phone app, then **** is really gonna be bad. These are our only phones, no home phones, no nothing. I'm an on-call worker, and my phone is how I make money. So I'd like to thank Apple in advance for completely screwing me over.

The worst part is that my comment is rolling in a few months from the original. I find it really strange that a multi-billion dollar company is incapable of fixing these problems quickly. I'm not suprised that the little man is getting the **** end of the stick but why leave your customers hanging like this?

I seem to have stumbled on to the cause of my problem. I completely reloaded my phone about a week ago. So far I havent had my original issue occur once the phone was reloaded. I did however find if I change the way I back up the phone, and set it to back up to icloud in itunes, the first time i use the phone in the morning, I get the problem with the "speaker" button being highlighted when the phone dials, and then i cant hear the person i called and vis versa. I swtched the setting to back up to this computer, and I don't have the problem ever. So maybe backing up to icloud is wacking the memory for springboard to run properly.

Since I've update to iOS 5.1.1 I have been having the following issues:

1) iMessages turn blue as if they have been sent but the word "Delivered" doesn't appear until few minutes later.

2) I don't receive any single iMessage for a while and suddenly I get a flooding of about 10 iMessages which have been sent minutes and sometimes hours ago.

3) Error saying that persons cannot be reached through iMessage is showned sometimes.

4) Sometimes I can't make or be reached by Facetime, even if I'm connected through Wi-Fi.

5) Same with emails, I don't receive any email for hours, and suddenly I receive all the emails that had been sent to me in the last past hours.

6) Phone calls drops more oftenly.

7) My phone goes Edge or Searching more oftenly. This "Searching" issue makes my phone run out of battery faster than usual.

I have noticed that almost all this issues get fixed temporarily (by temporarily I mean some few minutes) when I turn my phone into Airplane mode and then disable Airplane mode back to reset all networks.

It is really annoying to have to be doing that almost every 15 minutes, besides that it drains battery faster.

Does anybody else have been noticing all these issues with iOS 5.1.1?

Have Apple given or can give us an answer to this disconforting issues, or has announced when will 5.2 or 6.0 update will come out and whether it will fix all these things?

So far I feel like a have an iPod Touch 3G with intermitent Data... I'm also considering on selling my iPhone 4S and go back to Android...

When 5.1.1 hit, I upgraded my 16GB iPhone 4 right away and have had little to no problems with it. However, I just got around to upgrading my wife's 32GB iPhone 4 a few days ago and it is having all kinds of problems:

  • When in speakerphone mode, the mic does not work.
  • The volume buttons and mute switch don't work at all
  • With incoming calls, there is no ringtone, only vibrate. This is a huge problem, as many calls have been missed because a vibrating phone can't always be heard/felt.
  • Extremely unstable, constantly dropping calls even at full signal.

I'm sure there are other problems that we haven't encountered yet, but none of these were issues prior to the 5.1.1 upgrade.

As far as fixes, I've rebooted, both hard and soft, checked all settings, tried backup/restore, even tried the suggested toothbrush fix. No luck at all.

Unless Apple acknowledges this problem and comes up with a fix soon, I am done. My phone has already hit it's upgrade period, with hers coming up in November. I was holding out for the iPhone 5, but may just upgrade now to a Samsung Galaxy and give her my phone until her upgrade period hits.

I have been a huge Android user until I purchased an iPhone 2 days ago. I purchased it through Sprint. I am able to make calls, use Safari (though at times, it really lags) text, and go into the App Store and iTunes. However, I am unable to download any apps. The icon will come up, and it looks like it loads about halfway and then says the load has failed. I contacted Sprint first, and they told me to contact Apple support. So I contacted Support last night and they suggested that I do a factory reset via iTunes. It took over an hour and a half, but still did not fix the problem. I am running on 5.1.1, and am more than a little frustrated.

I am also in an area where we do not have an Apple store, and I cannot be without a phone, so I am at a loss of what to do. If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, please help!

Am currently on phone with Apple Support....they are telling me that I need to be connected to a wi-fi network all the time to download apps, and my husband's phone hotspot is not strong enough! I was advised that I need to go use Starbuck's wi-fi, and after giving them my number twice, they have me on hold. They also said that they have no record of my phone's serial number....how is that???

I am getting really frustrated with Apple...they are contradicting what they had told me before. Grrrr.....

I still haven't updated to 5.1.1 and don't think i will after seeing people are continuing to have these problems! my daughter updated her new iphone 4 in July, and it made it impossilbe to hear her from the phone. so they replaced the phone, but the new one continues to have problems, with frequent "searching" for a signal, and it's next to my phone which has no trouble getting reception!

I was hoping by now there'd be a fix for the update! Anyone know if there's a plan to fix these problems?

thanks!
