iTunes doesn't sync to iPhone

I synced my music to my iPhone through iTunes. On the computer everything looks like it worked. However, when I look on my phone, the music has not synced up. What's going on?

Check the following:

  1. On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos"
  2. In your music library you have checked all the songs you want to sync to your phone
  3. There are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
  4. You have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize This Computer)
  5. You have checked "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings

When everything looks correct, sync your phone.

I know I'm late but I just got mine working now. It's really easy and I hope it helps, all I did was:

1. restore phone to factory settings

2. let the phone sync back to the old iTunes account.

I have no idea why this worked or why the problem arose, and I know restoring phone to factory settings is slightly terrifying (it took a few days of trying every other option to build the balls to do it), but it worked for me.

I've been battling this issue on and off since iOS7 and iPhone 4S. I came with a solution that's sort of a mix of other suggestions found on this board. I don't know if all of the steps are necessary, but I'll outline all of them, since that worked for me so far.

The syncing problem came back with a vengeance on my iPhone 6 and iOS 8. I had some glitches, but was usually able to restore or start fresh and then carry on with my entire library and syncing without problems. Then last week it went nuts - when I tried to sync one album to the iPhone the whole music changed to "other" in iTunes. As always, I've tried syncing, resyncing, restoring from backup... nothing helped.

I couldnt delete music from the iPhone because it wasn't showing any on the hard drive.

I reverted back to iOS 8.4 and started with a fresh iPhone. It worked fine for a week until I had to start fresh again three days ago. It wouldn't even start syncing. Then it got better/worse - it would sync, but after hours of syncing the music wasn't there on the iPhone. I've wasted 10 hours on syncing my whole library (10 000 songs) numerous times.

Then I decided to get at this from the Mac side - I cleared my library in iTunes and added everything again from scratch. It seemed to work - I was able to sync 3 albums! Then 4, 5... Overwhelmed with joy, I hit "sync entire music" and waited 3 hours. It wrapped up as it should, I open Music on the iPhone... nothing there. Only purchases - as usual. I almost threw the phone out the window.

Then I found a tip to delete purchases - since the problem may be that iTunes syncs songs that are already on the iPhone and that's when the syncing fails. I erased all purchased songs from iTunes on my Mac.

Same situation, it synced 2 or 3 albums just fine, but when trying to sync entire library it failed after syncing for 3 hours. At that point I was considering switching to Android.

After I breathed a little, I remembered that some 2 months ago when I had a problem with music showing as "other" on the iPhone I went ballistic and used iExplorer. Since I didn't have anything to lose I opened up iExplorer this time as well and deleted "F0X" folder from "Music". Funny thing, there were songs in that folders that weren't showing in iTunes nor on iPhone's hard drive.

Again, syncing whole library failed. What didn't fail as of yet is syncing few artists at a time. It failed after I synced a Beatles album (***?), but when I unchecked it and synced again the music showed up again on the iPhone.

Therefore I've been syncing this way since yesterday and so far so good.

But if Apple doesn't solve this issue I'm going to ask for a refund or a new iPhone, because it's ridiculous. They want me to use their walled garden and use iTunes for syncing music - which is basically "drag and drop" in the outside "smartphone" world? Then make it freaking work!

To sum up, the steps I've taken and what worked for me:

• deleting music from iTunes on Mac and putting it back in

• not syncing purchased songs (from Mac to iPhone)

• deleting "F0x" folders from Music on the iPhone via iExplorer

• syncing a few artists or albums at a time

PS. Sometimes when I try to sync an artist, for example 9 Faith No More albums, the music disappears from the iPhone after syncing. It comes back after I unsync that artist and sync each album individually (just ticking each album instead of the artist). That's the level of bugginess I had never expected from Apple.

So in case of such failure - music disappearing from the iPhone at any stage of syncing your music library - unsync the last synced items one by one to see which causes the music to disappear. After you unsync the "right one", the music comes back. In that case don't sync that artist from the "artist" tab, but sync from "albums" tab.
