New to Apple, frustrated with menu bar

Okay, just bought my first mac, an IMAC 27 inch.. Using safari, I am irriated that I have to click at the top of the screen every time I want to see the file, edit, view, etc bar (the menu bar). Is there a way to lock it so it doesn't disappear? I find it hard to believe there is no way to do that. Also, the dock at the bottom doesn't pop up as fast as I thought it would when I put the mouse at the bottom of the screen, like when you hide the menu bar in win7 as soon as your mouse goes in that area, it shows up. Now, I am not using a mouse pad, so I HOPE that is why, but I feel like it takes at least 4-5 seconds when I go to the bottom to see my dock for it to pop up. I am excited to have a mac, but these little things are really turning me off already. Please tell me there is a way to fix these things

wow, thank you so much for that! (option + green button) Can't believe I went through all 10 pages of posts and suddenly found this at the end! Works like a charm for Safari and also for Mail. Doesn't work with Office for Mac, but I can deal.

I have tried all the possibilities on this thread but none worked.

I have this issue especially on Chrome Browser.

I activated Simple Full Screen Feature to come over it, it seems to have worked. Here is how to do it:

Hi and welcome to Apple Support Communities and congrats on your new iMac 🙂

Press Command + Control + F to exit or enter full screen mode.

Since you are new to Mac, you may want to disable the Lion "resume" feature.

Open System Preferences > General

Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

That will help your Mac boot faster.

For assistance with most applications click Help from the app's menu bar top of your screen.

This had nothing to do with my question! I want to know how to NOT make the menu bar disappear period, why should I have to lick at the top to see file, view, etc? I never said anything about booting slow, I said when I bring my mouse to the bottom while on the internet, the dock takes forever to pop up, unlike windows. I am assuming that was an automated response....which frustrates me more.

As I said before, use the keyboard shortcuts..

I offered the tip about disabling the Lion resume feature as it tends to cause problems with Safari. I was merely trying to save you that inconvenience.

Sorry.

So, you are saying +control will make the menu bar, with file, edit, view, history, tools, etc. Stay there, i will not have to click to at the top to see it? I always want the screen to be maximized and take up the enite screen, why would someone buy a 27 in screen if they could not utlize a browser covering that entire 27 inches.

I tried the +command. I still have to click at the top in order to acces copy from edit (the menu bar).

Now, being my second day owning a mac. I have no clue what Lion resume is

I just want to be clear. Is it possible in safari, ir any web browser. So be totally maximized and be able to have the menu bar visible at all times without having tk go to the top and click to make it appear.

Yes. It is the norm to be able to see the menu bar at all times.

Somewhere along the line, you pressed these buttons at the same time, and it toggled Full Screen on:

Apple/Command, Control, and the letter F

If you do it again, it will toggle it to Normal View.

Okay, this is crazy, I did what was asked. Again, I am not trying to be mean or rude so I am sorry if my typing makes it appear that way, I am just frustrated.

I did the command f and yes, the menu bar is there, but the screen (desktop/dock) is visible. Why!!!! Why do I have a 27 inch screen if I cannot surf the web, have the menu bar constantly visable, and have the whole screen taken up? Why can I only see the menu bar when the screen is only 3/4 there. This is what I see. There is no way to be able to have the whole screen taken up like most browsers and still have constant access to the menu bar without having to click at the top??? Please tell me yes, please. They can put a man on the moon, but having full screen with a locked menu bar is impossible?? Please help. First mac, really want to love it

I am 100% new to Mac, and really want to learn as much as possible about these machines, but little things like this make no sense. Is, for some reason, this supposed to be Convenient ?

Like I said, yes, it stays there when you hit the command f, but that cuts the browser size almost in half, which makes no sense. Is this only a safari issue? Seems to do the same with firefox, please tell me I am doing something wrong and that it is not the norm to not be able to have your browser maximized and have the menu bar accessible at all times....
