I don't find that to be an acceptable work-around. I'm not about to tell ALL my clients and friends to download something onto their computers! It is Apple's failing, not the failing of all the other computer systems in the world.
When I was using Eudora as an email program (sadly not compatible with newer OS's), I could use regular emoticons (like typing colon, hyphen, parentheses), and Windows users can still use and see regular emoticons. Why can't AppleMail do the same thing!
I agree but until Apple decides to join the rest of the world it seems the twain shall not meet. not sure who to nudge on this one. if Steve Jobs was still around i wouldn't hesitate contacting him. seems one has to go to the top to get things to move. Apple cant play interactive games or do certain things on Skype either that PC's can do.
Hi
I am using MAC OS X 10.9.1
Please try following shortcut
CTR-CMD-SPACE
The shortcut should work in all text-programs incl. mail.
How do I switch from HTML to text? And what does that mean in terms of my receiving stuff? Thanks! (This was suggested by the Tech guy i spoke with and if i remember correctly it didn't word...or rather the test i sent to my tester in California didn't reply.)
Hi Sue
please create a new mail or reply on a mail and use the shortcut
SHIFT-CMD-T
this will convert the mail into "normal" text format.
Thanks, when i do that i get this message: "If you change the message format, Outlook will remove all text formatting, such as bold and italic, as well as font and background colors and multimedia elements. This action cannot be undone." That seems a hefty price to pay so i think i'll stay with HTML and see if my immediate family will download the software to receive those silly faces.
But thank you for educating me. 🙂
I read through how to get emoticons (emoji), and I have to say I am really disappointed! I just got this MacBook Pro, and I like it a lot - except for this business of not being able to just go to the emoji when I want to, as it iPad. Guess I'll be doing my email from the iPad from now on. Bummer!!
