Greyed-out songs problem

First off, I'd like to start by saying that I'm sorry if I there are other threads that already talked about this. I tried googling for solutions, but I could not find any one article that could help my current problem.

After downloading my songs onto my iTunes, I tried to sync the songs to my iPhone. That's when the "Greyed-out" songs started showing up. In the Library itself, the songs are normal, playable. But under "Devices" -> Music, the songs appear "greyed-out" with a circle being created with two arrows that do not move. Furtherrmore, the "grey-out" song(s) does not sync to my iPhone. Below is a picture of the problem.

Again, the song is plays perfectly fine in the Library. However, it will not play under the Devices -> Music category nor will it appear on my iPhone. Please help me. I am tired of this problem and would like a quick solution. If there was a thread with the exact same problem, please post the link to said thread IF there is a solution. It is much appreciated.

I already tried one of the solutions that worked one time but doesn't seem to work now. The solution involved logging out of one's Apple account then logging back in. As I said, this one doesn't seem to work for me anymore. Any help and input is appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't have this problem or any problems until iOS 6. I couldn't get the friggin' thing to quit shuffling, so I rebooted the whole thing and restored from my last i-Tunes back-up. But when I added music, then I got the greyed out songs. I tried a couple of other suggestions, but this is the one that worked and it was a very simple fix. I thought I would have to do the ACC thing on every greyed out song, but only needed to do it to one and all the rest got fixed too! Thank you very much.🙂

I bought an iPhone 5 and could not add music to it. Same problem: grey songs. After hours searching forums and blogs I found this solution. Work for me! Now I manually add songs using iTunes and no problem. Hope it helps.

1. Download and install iExplorer http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/

2. Plug in device first, then open iExplorer

3. Delete the iPhone\Media\iTunes_Control folder (you may want to copy this, just in case)

4. Restart the iPhone / iPad

5. Start iTunes. Not restore iPhone from back up, select New iPhone (don't worry, you will not lost apps or data on your iPhone doing this)

6. Add music manually with iTunes

Hey everyone!

Just had the "greyed-out" problem with a song I tried to add to my iphone from my itunes. However, I just solved it and got it to work. Here's what I did:

1) Unplugged/Ejected my iphone (after all other syncing, backing up, etc was done)

2) Plugged my iphone back up and ensured it came up in itunes

3) On my iphone, opened "Music" app and went to songs

4) Dragged the song I was having trouble from itunes to one of my playlist listed on my iphone...

5) ...and then BOOM! The songs started to appear on my iphone and started to sync and load!

I figured the "greying" of the song meant it was still syncing. So, by opening my music app on my iphone while still having it plugged in I was able to see the songs time-frame for loading up (meaning how long it was going to take)

Hope this helps

i know exactly what to do! ok this is what i did too jsut a couple seconds ago messing around. so i copied the greyed songs into a playlist, by doing this then you can procceed. alright so after they are in the palylist then you delete one of the songs in the playlist only not the iphone music tab, and the phone should update and add your songs. its wierd but i think the for some reason the iphone doesnt update your songs when you just drag them over. I hope this helps!

Hello all!

I have solved this problem through trial and error.

To remove the greyed out songs from your iphone/ipod delete the album that contains the greyed out songs.

Re-sync the album and the songs will no longer be greyed out.

If the whole album is greyed out and you cant delete the album then drag a song from your itunes library that is in that album onto your ipod. Even if it is already on your ipod as a greyed out song, it will come up as a song and you will be able to delete the album as a whole.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

It's actually the first time that something like this happen to me. [5th gen iOS 6]
***Added 3 new songs to my ipod before this happened.***

- Check my ipod > music & video = ALL GONE! Check itunes > ipod = all songs & video were greyed out.

- Restarted both pc and ipod. Still greyed out on itunes, still no music & vid on ipod.

- Deleted the (3) songs I recently added. Still greyed out, still no music & vid.

- Added a new playlist on the device via itunes then VOILA, copying all music & vid to ipod. *Resyncs itself!

Just my two cents.

I had this problem because I didn't realize I did not have any free memory. I uplugged my iPhone, deleted several videos I had already copied to my Mac and resynced my iPhone and the grey songs were not grey anymore.

You can see your memory by clickig on the device i iTunes and at the bottom of the screen is a bar showig how much of your memory is music, photos, apps etc. I think you need some "free" memory to add songs.

This worked for me.
