Greyed-out songs problem

I've had this issue for a while now and in desparation I just 'upgraded' to iTunes 11 the other day, but the problem persisted.

However I just tried Dysko's solution, and it worked for me!

"..go to Preferences on your Itunes, choose devices and check where it says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically...."

I had this same problem today. I am sure this solution does NOT reply to everyone, but it may help some of you. I am not trying to be sarcastic or anything like that, but my iPod touch was just FULL. I received no messages in iTunes or on my iPod saying it was full. I just looked at the main screen when I plugged it in and it said "Over Capacity" - I deleted some things and then I was able to add the songs I wanted without them being greyed out. Sorry if someone has already pointed this out, I wasn't going to read 4 pages of replies - just trying to help out.

Deleted the greyed-out track from iPhone's iTunes;

ejected iPhone;

plugged iPhone back in;

dragged track to iPhone from iTunes;

track transferred successfully!

I have found what works for me on my iPhone 4s. I tried all of the fixes others had posted with no success. This is what finally worked for me: Go into Settings/iTunes & App Stores and turn ON "Use Cellular Data." Poof! All of the greyed songs became black. Hope it works for you. Good luck!

I followed the advice about deleting and restoring your ipad ... i did it with my mini and the problem of syncing of music and videos was miraculeosly solved

Here's what I did:

iphone settings

go to itunes and app stores

turn on use cellular data

now sync your phone again

all of the sudden the grayed out songs were syncing up

So frustrating that we all have to solve this issue ourselves.

All I had to do was unplug my iPhone 5, plug it back in and resync it. Hope this helps. 🙂

I am having the same problem. How do I delete the greyed out songs from my iPod 4? On the old iTunes, it was easy to choose what you want to sync to your iPod. You'd just drag and drop. The new iTunes is so confusing. There is no drag-and-drop feature. I HATE it!

TO EVERYONE THAT HAS THE "GREYED OUT MUSIC PROBLEM!":

try going to settings>itunes & app stores>(then turn on "music" under "auto downloads" and also turn on "use cell data." IT WORKED FOR ME!! :)

This works for me, make the changes and restart iTunes.

I have a simular problem, except that all of the songs in my Iphone are grey.

Everytime I sync it looks like Itunes will sync my music too, but I never does...

I tried everything here, but nothing seems to work.

The bar below my Itunes also illustrates this problem!

Can someone please help?

OMG!!! THANK YOU...the post about going into settings on phone/app store/turn on auto dl for music/turn on cellular data ...restarted phone and iTunes and synced WORKED FOR ME to get rid of the greyed out songs on my iPhone 🙂 BEYOND HAPPY! Hope it works for everyone else too.

@sstephany1's solution totally worked for me... none of the others did. I changed 1 to AAC and the others became "un-greyed" automacially. Thanks so much!
