how to add a text to a photo in iphoto

Adds text, adjusts fonts, adjusts size, and aligns font. It is just what I have been looking for.

Preview is already on your machine and does all that.

Umm I went to App Store and didn't see any app called "Over". Are you sure it isn't called something else? Preview is a little flakey for altering text,adding arrows etc, I want something that gives me more control. I would happily pay $2

There are also watermarking apps that can add text to a photos. Go to MacUpdate.com and search for "watermark" to get a list of candidates.

You can export it to Picasa (if you've downloaded Picasa), double click your photo (which puts it in edit mode), and there is a text box right there. (Actually, I think Picasa copies every photo you have that is in iPhoto).

How is that better than using Preview that's already on your mac?

Oh it's probably not any better. You just don't have to go to another program. it's right there in "edit," where I think stuff should be. But then I have yet to be fully satisfied with ANY photo editing program, including the great Photoshop. Closest I've come to truly intuitive is a little program called "Acorn."

I was able to use Pisaca after fumbling around with exporting. I will probably utilize Preview more often, now that I have finally discovered how to use it. I am still a little curious about 'GIMP for Mac'. I am afraid it may be more powerful than I know how to cope with. You all have provided some very helpful information. Thank you!

How is going to Picasa not going to another program form iPhoto but using Preview (which can be set as an external editor for iPhoto) does mean going to another program?

You are welcome to use what you want but for nearly everyone preview is a better choice

You can set Preview as the iphoto external editor and then edit and save never having to actualy leave iPhoto and never having ot export anything

Sounds like Preview is the better way to go. What gets me is why don't they put this stuff right in iPhoto?? Like resize, text, etc?

Resize is in iPhoto. Adding text is compositing and uses Layers. iPhoto isn't a compositing app and doesn't have layers. Think of it this way, you can do many things to a photo in iPhoto but you can't add things to a photo.

THANK YOU! I just went into my setting and changed it like you said and VOILA! Easiest solution! I love how I can now right click on the pictures in iPhoto and choose to edit in iPhoto (for my normal edits) or in Preview (to add text). Appreciate your help.

Preview works very well, thanks to all who suggested this approach. Picasa works well but clumsy to switch back and forth. However, a question on Preview. Can the text entered be changed once annotated? Can't figure out how to make a change in font.

Yes. It's easier to select the particular text for change if you use the sidebar in Preview

I must be doing someting wrong because I cannot select the imbedded text orignally created, only add new text in another area.
