I ahve the same problem but there isn't any CD inside.

Wjeb I use the drutil eject command the system try to excute the command ( a little noise coms out form the drive ) but the drive remains blocked and I cannot insert a CD.

The mechanism stay as there is a CD inside.

In the Finder the Eject icon is off, I don't have any CD icon on the desktop and I have tried to eject the disck from iTunes.

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro and I had the disk replaced twice from Applecare for the same reasons. Now that Applecare is long gone, the problem started again. After much research, I figured out that it's the felt lips on the front of the DVD drive that is stopping the DVD from ejecting. i realize there is a purpose to these lips - keeping dust and foreign matter out and whatnot - but the drive doesn't function with these lips as they are. They are so tight the DVD can't get past - "let me out you felt lips!," said my son's Madagascar DVD. I used needle nose plyers and pulled out the lip all the way around. Be careful as it easily rips but you'll get it in time. My drive works perfectly now. If I have ruined the drive by allowing dust to get in, so what? I'll have to replace it but I'd have to replace it anyway with these felt lips.

I hope this helps.

I thought you were correct about not being able to have 2 disks inthe drive at once😉 working at a school where a teacher has done just that... 2x CD's in the drive at the same time... Tried all sorts of tricks to no avail. Have removed single stuck CD's with folded paper to the width of a ruler running the terminal command for eject and cd slot pointing at the floor

slide the paper into the drive just on one of the sides of the disc (prefer on top rather than under the disk)

press the eject command and tease the cd out... using the friction on the paper to help draw the disk out.

(or double sided tape on paper works too...) always loathed to put anything in the drives. have successfully removed 30 disks this way so far with 0 damage to the MBP.

Great suggestions. I tried all of them. The only one that worked was to push eject and shake the mac.

The disk slid out OK. It seems that this particular DVD was a free give away with a magazine and was approx 50% thinner than another DVD I've seen. Seems the eject mechanism couldn't cope with this very thin disk.

I tried all the solutions on this thread so far to no avail, but then finally I found a solution of my own. It turns out that my mac was a little dented/misshapen at the entrance to the cd player from dropping it one too many times. I assume the pads inside the opening were pinched together too tight for the cd to squeeze through. So, if you are clumsy and drop your mac a lot, like me, and this cd eject problem still persists after trying all of the above, then check to make sure there aren't any dents in the area that blocks the cd's escape route.😉

I had to use Ogelthorpe's solution 6 while tilting my computer and shaking. It came out on the third try.

I've had this problem several times over the years, the problem is that the eject isn't strong enough to get it past the felt on the inside unless the disc is particularly thick or thin. So, in my case at least, the drive tries to eject, fails, gives up immediately, and attempts to play the disc. And in classic mac behaviour it ignores any continuing application of the button once it decides its gonna try to play the disc. Same thing happened with my whitebook.

Sigh. I need to tape that slot shut, because this happens 2 out of every 3 times I use the disc drive. And it ruins my discs because the mac keeps trying to play them and gets temperamental with them if even slightly disturbed. Every time, I tell myself "this time will be different, surely!" and every time I end up fighting with it. Occasionally for hours.

A version of the problem that hasn't been described here yet:

I recently had my Macbook repaired for a different problem. Since then, the DVD drive has been a little reluctant to accept DVDs, and this evening it absolutely refused to eject one. The mechanism kept *trying* to eject the disc, but it was never successful.

I've been noticing that, after the repair, the bottom case was not screwed in perfectly -- I can feel a seam between the bottom and the side when I run my finger along it, but moreso on the side with the DVD drive. I finally decided that this may have misaligned the drive just a bit, so I tried gently squeezing the bottom panel and keyboard side of the bottom case together while I pushed eject -- et voila! One ejected disc.
