iCloud account limit reached?

I bought an iPod off an old friend and when I go to log into my Apple ID to use it for iCloud, it say Account Limit Reached. How do I fix this as I would like to use my Apple ID for iCloud on my new device.

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

That is incorrect, AppleCare has no ability to bypass the 3 account rule.
