Deleted emails in Apple Mail IMAP account reappear after deleted

Ok so this has been driving me NUTS!

I have an IMAP email account set up within my apple mail program and I am having a strange case where emails are reappearing in my inbox (marked as read) after I have deleted them!!!! So I start my day going through emails, replying, organizing, deleting, etc. then I do something else - come back and they have all re-appeared! Its like spam email **** - I have to go through all my emails 3-4 times a day!

The account is an IMAP from GoDaddy

Under Mailbox Behaviors I tried unchecking "store deleted messages on server" (found that somewhere online) but it didnt help :/

After INOGuy said Bug00's suggestion worked for him, I did more testing with Bug00's suggestion to uncheck "Use IDLE command..." Here's what I discovered: The account that I unchecked caused my new emails to come in to that account's email inbox, however the new emails did not always come in to my general inbox. That's why I thought that no new emails were coming in (Aug 20 post). I'm used to looking at all of my accounts together in one inbox. However, I'd rather have to look at 3 separate inboxes and not see any returned mail (YES, it works! When I uncheck the box I do not see deleted emails re-entering any inbox).

So thanks INOGuy and Bug00. Torrey, I wonder why unchecking the box isn't working for you.

Thanks GoDaddyGuy. I talked with AppleCare about all of this yesterday (again) and the rep said they are starting to hear this quite a bit from their customers who use Go Daddy. So I'm sure there are folks on your team taking this seriously and doing everything they can to resolve it as soon as possible

My problem is even worse. Mail (Mountain Lion) has deleted (or perhaps just hidden) ALL my mail before 3 September this year (i.e. a week ago), on all accounts (with three different providers except iCloud). Fortunately, this hasn't happened on my MacBook Air (yet). What is going on? And, no, I don't have a rule telling Mail to delete messages after a week.

My company migrated me to Outlook. I got used to it but found it always to be slow. And then it got realllly slow...I've since learned that the program is known to have a fair number of bugs that can really slow down your whole system. So I just switched back to Macmail. The same thing you all are/were experiencing happened to me. For those of you that have been dealing with it for months, I am so, so sorry... This would indeed be maddening. I cannot find the "idle" solution that is referenced. I do not have that option in the advanced tab... I called GoDaddy and they "reset" my email... We'll see. If you know anything else, let me know!

Hi,

I am experiencing the same problem with my IMAP accounts - I have 4 of them and I have 4 apple devices that I check my emails on. THis is driving me crazy - when I delete the emails one one device they reappaer on all devices. Three of my IMAP accounts are with Go Daddy - the fourth is not. It appears to be only happening with my Go daddy accounts. I emailed Go Daddy Support and all I got was this advice:

Open Apple Mail.

From the Mail menu, select Preferences.

Click Accounts, and select your email account.

Go to the Advanced tab.

Clear the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message checkbox.

Click OK.

But I do not have Remove copy from server after retrieving a message appearing in the advanced tab!?!?

Anyone have any ideas or even better - a solution?

Hi all

I was having the same problem as everbody else, you would delete emails and they would return straight away when clicking between inbox & deleted I have a BT email address. however took the advice of one of the previous

posts and did this

Firstly, in Mail Preferences, under "Accounts", in the "Advanced" pane, I unchecked "Use IDLE command if the server supports it".

this worked for me, well done that person, thanks AL

I used the fix that someone earlier suggested of unchecking the "Use IDLE Command" in the Account preferences section.

Now what I don't understand is why Go Daddy hasn't addressed this. I called them two weeks ago and they said they knew there was a problem, and they were addressing it but didn't know when it would be fixed.

He should have known to tell me that unchecking the IDLE command box would do the trick.

Mr. Go Daddy - what does the IDLE command box do anyway? What difference does it make to our e-mail that we don't have it checked?

I've also been having problems with attachments getting stripped out of e-mails before they land in my Apple Mail Box ( I don't have this problem with my Ipad or iPhone).
