Unable to move message to Trash

Thank you so much for this simple solution to a most aggravating issue!

I tried the delete account, switch off, wait, then reload the account - that seemed to work, and I also typed 'inbox' in the IMAP, so hopefully all's now well...!!!

I tried deleting my hotmail account and re adding it and it worked ...THANKS !!

By the way I have an iPhone 6.

I had a similar problem on my 2014 Air running El Capitan. The offending email was on an Exchange account. It also shows up on my iOS devices (running 8 & 9, respectively.)

I had tried the "mark as unread" solution before reading this thread. I'm glad it worked for so many, but it didn't work for me.

I also tried just turning the account off and then back on. That didn't work.

My third try was the suggestion made in this thread to delete the Exchange account and then re-create it.

That one has worked on both my Air and my iOS 9 device; haven't checked the 8.

That's easy when you open mail all your mail boxes open and if you try to delete an email you get the message because it doesn't know what trash folder to put it in. So just go in to each email account individually and then you can delete.

I too have the same problem, but it is only spam from Ladbrooks that seems to be the problem. Think it might be the 2nd time Apples operating system has been infected. Which is worrying as that is the only reason I now stick to apple.

I cannot delete some messages from my junk box to trash. But I have also got my trash folder saying there are still 12 messages in there but it's empty.
